Port Stanley / Sparta Day Trip

Going there tomorrow with elderly relatives. Does the local train still run? Also what is the name of the good fish and chip joint? Has anyone been to the winery near Sparta?

Well I can answer one of your questions!
The winery Quai di Vin has a website and I was there last summer - they have summer concerts on their property. A very nice small winery. I don't think the local train runs but not sure. And is it The Bridge restaurant you're looking for? Stop off at the store Brambles..I always find interesting little gifts there. Also you can pick up fresh fish at a small fish market at the end of the street that Brambles is on. There's a little gift store across the street from it that's also very nice. Have fun!

sorry, that's Quai du Vin...

Thanks Bashful! I will try the places you suggested esp. Brambles I think my mom and aunt will like it. I found out the train is a little tourist trek around the area - 90 minutes from the lift bridge station. We will check it out and I'll post a report.

Port Stanley was fun. We ate at Bridges and agreed the fries were the best. Some of us had Perch which was very good. Did a bit of shopping and headed to Sparta to a craft place called "Winter Wheat". It is owned by a couple who produce folk art. The grounds are awesome and visitors are encouraged to explore all the quaint little buildings. We saw it in the Sept. issue of Canadaian Living Magazine. It was a treat for the elderly aunties, and my 9 yr. old daughter also loved it. Saw the road to the Quai du Vin winery, but had no time....

glad to hear you enjoyed your day..maybe Quai du Vin next time? I've been to Winter Wheat and it is unique isn't it?
Did you get to Brambles?

We didn't make it to Brambles because we spent too much time in an artists cooperative we found. We did drive down by the beach and decided to come back again soon with our bathing suits. The entire area is lovely.
