Plan our Canadian Trip

Hoping to drive to the Niagra Falls in the fall with my Husband and our 7, 5, & 2yo children, Driving from New York to the Canadian falls leaving Friday Evening and returning to Long Island via the New England ferry on Monday any suggestions on the route we should take, where we should stay on Friday evening along the way and if there is something interesting we should see on our return journey

Since it would appear that 95% of this trip will be in the US why are you calling it a Canadian trip and why are you asking for routing within the US on the Canadian board?

It would be ever so much more useful (to you) if you were to request, rather than demand, assistance. Better yet, you should plan your own trip, then request refinement tips here.

What, for example, is "interesting" to you?

And, are you "hoping" are really gonna get going?

I've found the above two responses not particularly helpful. The lady's questions are legit and in no way "demanding." She wants to visit the Canadian side of the Falls, so I see nothing wrong in her posting the inquiry on the Canadian site.

Presuming dunican means she lives in NYC, I'd grab a recent road atlas and take the most direct interstate to NF. Once you are near your destination you will see signs directing you. I think it takes about 7 hours or so for the trip, give or take. I presume you'll want to stay the night on the trip enroute. Any hotel chain along the way would do. Those serving complimentary breakfasts (such as Hampton Inns) are helpful since you can grab a bite in the lobby and be on the road quicker.

Be advised that crossing the border at the Rainbow Bridge entry (at the Falls) tends to be very busy during summer tourist hours. If the Whirlpool Bridge entry point is open (located a little to the east), I'd opt for that since most tourists use Rainbow Falls.
You'll need either passports or bith certificates for everyone, both ways.

I'm unsure of your reference to the New England ferry. The only one I know of is from Maine to Nova Scotia. Anyway, plugging the term into a search engine should supply you with ample information about that. Absent that, driving back east on the canadian side and reentering NY state at the Thousand Islands entry port might prove to be different.

I agree that the Canadian side of the Falls is the best focal point. It's prettier, too. Consider going up in the tower, riding the Maid of the Mists, seeing the butterfly conservatory, etc. Your kids will have fun and so will you. Enjoy!

Do not be dismayed, dunican. There are many antagonistic posters on Fodors site. If you reference it often, you will discover this.Hope you have a great trip.

I don't think I was rude. If I was taking a trip from my home in Vancouver to California with a 'possible' day trip to Tijuana I wouldn't call it a 'Mexican Trip' nor would I go on the Mexico post for routing from my home to San Diego/Tijuana and back. The question was about routing there and back and what to see on the way and not at all about Niagra Falls, ON. So what's wrong with telling 'dunican' to ask the question on the US board?
