Places to eat in Jasper and Lake Louise
We will be in Jasper for 3 nights, in Lake Louise area for 2 nights, and at Johnston Canyon Resort for 2 nights. Can you guys suggest places to eat with two teenagers? Don't really want to drive into Banff on nights at Lake Louise. I know some mentioned the restuarant at Baker's Chalets but what about other meals and lunches. Thnaks

there's a place called the station in lake louise. i was there for lunch and it was good. it's the old railway station turned into a restaurant.

The Station is a nice restaurant with good food, but a little on the pricey side.
One of our favourite dinner spots is at the Post hotel, not the dining room but the downstairs pub which has good food at reasonable prices. A friend of mine claims they make the best french fries anywhere. Also on the good but not too pricey side, there is a restaurant in the Lake Louise Hostel. |
You already have received good advice about Lake Louise.
When it comes to Jasper, I recommend TripAdvisor's web page entitled Inside Jasper National Park : Dining Scene. TripAdvisor's "Inside Pages" follow "Wiki" protocols (such as those used by Wikipedia). Basically it's a way for different authors to contribute to a web page that provides information on a given topic. The person who contributed the most to that page about dining in Jasper is a long-time Jasper resident who goes by the User Name of krp329: http://tinyurl.com/yubwjd I understand there is an in-house restaurant at Johnston Canyon Resort. However, aside from that, there is nothing else around there (except trees). So, if you want a change, you'll need to drive the 20 minutes or so to Banff townsite. When it comes to Banff, I find that Taxi Mike's recommendations are spot on: http://www.taximike.com/ Hope that helps. |
We're in the Rockies now.
fiddle river, jasper- we left jasper 3 days ago and had a great meal at Fiddle River. Highly recommended. Becker's chalet gourmet restaurant, jasper- We regret to say how [disappointing] the meal was. everything was just plain boring ie lamb and the fish. what a waste of eating opportunity in jasper [sigh] baker's creek chalet, lake louise -We are currently in LL and had dinner there tonight. my husband had the lobster calloni and i had the beef tartare as starters. and for the main, he had the venison and elk dish while i had the fettucine with veal cheek. it was as good as it came recommended! it was our last dinner in lake louise and tomorrow we leave for banff. excuse the missing caps. having serious problems with our keyboard/laptop. have to press fn key while typing....a pain [grumble] |
while in lake louise, we also tried out this place called bill peyto's cafe. it's located next to a hostel, so thats probably why most or all of their meals are not over cad17. a mixed crowd and they serve foods such as burgers, salads, sandwiches etc. and for what its worth, it isnt bad. its not gourmet, but i dont know too many teenagers who'd prefer gourmet over hamburger [smiles]

Our daughter is really 20 and in college and eats nice food well. Son - 16 - will eat steak well but doesn't appreciate good food like he should. Can you tell me ~ what it was for dinner for two at Baker's Creek?

Lake Louise Inn has 2 restaurants. The one upstairs is Timberwolf Pizza & Pasta Cafe - it has good pasta, and is reasonably casual without being sloppy. The one downstairs is Legends, which has more upscale food. We did not eat there, but did eat at Timberwolf, and enjoyed it. Lake Louise Inn is in the village area.
We also ate at Bill Peyto's, and enjoyed the food and the casual atmosphere. In Jasper, we enjoy going to the Jasper Pizza Palace. Earl's also has terrific food, and is casually sophisticated - good place. Enjoy your trip! We've been 3 times, and seem to always fit another trip into our annual travel plans. We also ate at Karouzo's in Jasper, where we all had really good food. We ended up there by accident, but it turned out to be a good one. |
hi fae,
my husband had the lobster calloni and i had the beef tartare as starters. and for the main, he had the venison and elk dish while i had the fettucine with veal cheek. it was as good as it came recommended! if your son likes steak, then the venison and elk dish would be ideal for him. |
