Picnic on road to Tofino
Just wondering if anyone remembers an especially nice spot along Rt 4 to stop for a simple picnic lunch. There are several small parks, but does one perhaps stand out?

Actually Cathedral Grove can get awfully crowded in summer. It's a beautiful spot, and well worth a visit, but I guess it's understandable that on that narrow stretch of road there is not much opportunity for a picnic.
The drive along Kennedy Lake, closer to Tofino, is beautiful. I don't recall off hand whether there are picnic grounds there, but I'll check in my BC Road Atlas this evening and post again.

Clousie, we just returned from V.I. & B.C./Jasper & Banff
Heading towards Tofino there is a pullover, on the right, just before Cathedral Grove. Excellent lake views and fairly quiet. We stopped here on the way back. (No b.r. facilities)
C.G. is lovely but busy. (Does have bathroom facilities). Further on maybe 25 min. shy of the Tofino area is another lovely lake. (Kennedy Lake?)Again we saw no facilities and very limited parking. Plus at that point you are almost in the "greater" Tofino area. FYI: Going out we did stop at the "Rooftop Goat Restaurant". It was 11:30 a.m. on a weekday and really fun---not too crowded. Friendly staff and pretty good food selection too. Coming back, 4 days later, on a Saturday the entire place was a zoo. Packed to the gills----we took a few photos of the goats munching on grass up on the rooftop and then took off.
Hope this helps---its a great corner of the globe.

The 'goat roof restaurant' is Coombs old country market. Yes a zoo in summer. But anywhere with sod roof and goats is worth checking out.

It's been about 12 years since we visited Tofino, but I remember camping at a campground about mid-way, maybe closer to Port Alburni, which was beautiful, and not at all busy then. Unfortunately I don't remember the name.
