PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

Hi,
I was talking to a friend who was in Toronto a few years ago. She told me they built a theater specifically for the Phantom of the Opera. Is this true? Which theater is it?
Is Phantom of the Opera still playing there?

Kathy

Pantages is the theatre they built. Phantom of the Opera is no longer playing.

They renovated the Pantages Theatre on Yonge Street and Phantom played there until just recently (for 10 years or so).

Kathy, if you're interested in theatre, "Lion King" is playing at the Princess of Wales theatre. That is a truly lovely theatre and the show is wonderful. It'll be in Toronto for a long time, although I don't know how easy it is to get last minute tickets. I work close to the theatre and it often is sold out.

Hi,
Thank you Susan for that information on The Lion King. That is something we are considering. When I checked with ticketmaster they were sold out for the dates we will be in Toronto. I understand that sometimes last minute tickets are available. Is this true? Where would I go to get them?

Thanks,
Kathy
I'm not sure about last minute tickets, but you could check at the theatre box office.

Please, beg or borrow or steal to get tickets to Lion King.. as a musical theatre buff for over 45 years I have to tell you Lion King is an "experience"..we saw it in New York and although the music is something you don't go out humming..the scenery, costumes and the whole theatre experience of being there is incredible... I can only tell you of the wonderment I felt when at one point there were birds being flown over the whole theatre (not real ones) and animals marching down the aisles.. Frankly, this is so far better than Phantom of the Opera... I'm one of those people who think Andrew Lloyd Webber has only one song in his plays and can't hold a candlestick to Sondheim... Too bad too that Ragtime isn't around...the best musical I've seen in 10 years..anyhow..

There is a half-price, same day ticket outlet called T.O. Tix that you should try. They sell tickets to Toronto theatre, dance and music shows, as well as other venues in Southern Ontario. The tickets are first come, first served, for same day performances only. You never know for sure what they'll have, but it's worth a shot. You can find the information at http://www.toronto.com/E/V/TORON/0011/77/20/
Toronto.com also has good current listings of the productions that are currently playing. Have fun!
