PEI Summer rentals

We are looking to rent a place for a week or two in August in PEI. WE have never been before. We would love some ideas of whcih areas are the nicest (we like to be close to restaurants/shopping) and any websites for rentals that are good. Thanks.

I take it your family is young.
PEI is a wonderful laid back relaxing scenic and pastoral province. It is absolutely wonderful for young families. Since you are interested in restaurants and shopping I would suggest you get a map and map a one hour distance from Charlottetown. Cavendish is a busy tourist area with lots of cottage rentals. There is a beautiful National Park there with great beaches. There is lots of commercial activity there. North Rustico is close by but a little more off track for commercial. Good restaurants and lovely fresh seafood shops you can take back to your cottage to grill. Again if you check the map and go from Cavendish eastward there is some great beaches and scenery towards Cabot Provincial Park. We stayed at Cabot Provincial Park this summer and the beaches were great.
have you checked this:

is your idea a cottage where you can prepare some meals?

from Cavendish to Cabot Park is westward...just so you don't get confused.

Whoops sorry about that! Westward it is.

Our cottage would be PERFECT for you! It's right outside Cavendish and very close to Stanley Bridge, Charlottetown and Summerside.

Check out the website:

Hmmm, Shea, so nice of you to join just to plug your own rental.

I'm not associated in any way with the following - my family has a cottage on this same beach, so I know it's a great place to go (haven't seen the cottages themselves) - the beach is perfect for kids, or if you want to have miles of sandbars to walk on at low tide, and, being on the south shore (Northumberland Strait) instead of the north shore (Gulf of St. Lawrence), the water is calmer and gets quite warm for swimming. It's quite central - about halfway between the bridge and Summerside, and Charlottetown and Cavendish areas are not too far either. Anyway, the operation is called Auchinleck cottages - they are located on the shore near their farm, and they have two or three cottages for rent.

I don't know about the cottages krp329 recommended but the area he/she described is excellent....spent many summers in that area as a child....great beach area.

Here is the website for Auchinleck: http://auchinleck.ca/ I mis-spoke - they actually have four cottages, on a working dairy farm. Note that these are "cottages" - not a 2100 sq ft house rental like Cole's - they are smaller and simpler in style - and less than half the price.
