Ooops! PEI is GONE!

FODORS needs to get a map.According to News reports on Canadian TV, FODORS completed a brochure project for the Canadian Tourism Commission. Included in the brochure was map of Canada. The entire province of Prince Edward Island was missing. Halifax...Nova Scotia's capitol city was gone and nowhere to be seen was the capitol of New Brunswick, Fredericton.

Surely FODORS has a Canadian map somewhere. The Canadian Tourism Commission spent $600,000 on this project. They should have spent an extra 100 dollars for a proof-reader.

Yeah, I read about that this morning.
Pretty funny.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Canadian Tourism Commission, in their wisdom, decided to contract out a $600,000 project for the first issue of "PureCanada" magazine and, for whatever reason, awarded the contract to an American company, Fodor's Travel Guides. The magazine's intent was to lure tourists to Canada. Well, Fodors missed a few facts. Here's just a few small mistakes they made in the magazine distributed to 270,000 households:

1. They completely ommitted Prince Edward Island and Yukon Territory. Now how the hell could you miss these. Hello, hello, how many provinces in Canada?
2. They neglected to put Halifax, Fredericton and Brandon on the maps while identifying many smaller cities. Last time I checked, Halifax was the capital of Nova Scotia.
3. They misidentified Newfoundland and Labrador.
4. They misspelled "Nunavit".
5. They completely ignored regions in northwestern Ontario as if they didn't exist.

yeah, our government has found a way to blow another $600,000 - we should be so proud

Fodor's did not get a $600,000 contract.

It supplied a few maps, but it was not paid $600,000 for these.

The CBC needs to get a new reporter.

A "retraction" was printed in the National Post. It was actually the CTC that made the mistakes.

I commiserate. I live on an island off the North West coast of Wales which often gets dropped off maps. Even the BBC are not immune to doing this!
