Ontario and Quebec for one month.
 

We will be going to Collingwood(Ontario) and Victoriaville (Quebec) in June/July 2014. We travel a lot, but mostly to Europe. This invitations came as a surprise to us, but we really do not know Canada very well. We love culture, architecture as well as nature. Please help!!

Collingwood is about three hours from Niagara Falls and about 2 hours from Toronto... definitely plan a side trip to include these areas... there is a wonderful wine region in the Niagara Area and Toronto was named the World's Most Diverse City... have fun

To me, this is helpful information.

Start consulting guidebooks and travel sites about the areas you want to visit. Your first big issue is how you are going to get around, especially since your two bases to visit are smaller centres. Public transit is not as extensive as visitors from some other continents might expect. Really, no-one can help you until you accumulate some basic knowledge and set some of your own priorities.

Victoriaville is in farm country, but an ideal location to explore Montreal, Quebec City, the beautiful lake resort Magog, and the wineries and cider mills of southern Quebec. Montreal and Quebec City, which are each about 90 minutes away, are two of my favorite destinations anywhere. If you enjoy bicycling, Quebec has the best network of bike trails in the world. This is a wonderful area to spend some time, but practice your French!

Do you like beautiful scenery and will you have a car?

If so, consider driving up the Bruce peninsula (not far from Collingwood). The various sites of the Bruce Peninsula National Park have really lovely easy hikes.

Although I love our national parks system, this is not my favourite for camping as it is often crowded and the amenities are non existent, i.e. pit toilets without hydro, no showers. However, if you want to give this very Canadian summer experience a try you can stay in a yurt if you book early enough.

While you are on the tip of the peninsula also make a visit to Fathom Five national marine park. You can take a ferry to one of the islands which has a hiking trail and historic site.

Another way to take in nature is along the Bruce Trail. For $50 for family membership you will have access to numerous guided hikes . You can also walk sections of the trail on your own. It is well marked and trail guides should be fairly easy to obtain locally.
