One more Vancouver Hotel question - Suites near Stanley Park?

Hi - thanks for all the suggestions re: Moderate Vancouver hotels. I've checked into a couple which look promising. However, I also was intrigued by the suggestion of Apartment Suites. There are two in the Stanley Park area look good - the Rosellen Suites was mentioned by one poster. The other that looks very nice in their website is the Times Square Suites. Any opinions on these would be received gratefully. Thanks again!

Gee, mtjt, are you reviewing the other threads here, including mine titled "Vancouver Apartment for a week". Both these properties have been suggested and discussed at length there in just the past couple of days. I'm planning on Times Square Suites based on the comments, and the better prices.

Hi Patrick, I had reviewed threads before posting my first message which was a couple days before your post. I was away for a few days and didn't update myself on new threads before posting this follow-up message. Sorry for the redundancy. But thanks for pointing out this good information.

Hi Michelle,

I just posted some info about the Lord Stanley Suites, which is also by Stanley Park, on another thread. I think if you click on my screen name it will come up. I stayed at a private rental there that was just $120/night Can and included free parking and all taxes. It was a little compact, but quite functional and well-located.

I'm a little confused, seattlewriter. It sounds like your suite was a condo, yet every time we've stayed at the Lord Stanley, it seemed like a regular hotel. Your rate was much better than ours ever were.

Hi April, we stayed in a privately owned suite. It is the standard 1-bedroom just like the others. Not terribly big, I think around 550 sq ft maybe. Apparently some of the units/suites there are privately owned -- I saw at least one other listed on vrbo.com in that building.

Of course with a private rental, we didn't get daily maid service, and in fact were asked to load the dishwasher with all the dishes we'd used and run it before we left. And take the garbage and recycling down to the "refuse room" on the parking level. I didn't mind doing that considering how much we saved over regular rates! Especially not having to pay for taxes and parking -- that was nice.

Thanks, Shelley. I didn't know! And so, did you just check in at the front desk like a regular hotel patron and arrange the parking with them?

Hi April,

The owner left the key cards for us with the 24-hour front desk, and we had access to the parking lot with the key. But we didn't really have contact with the front desk except for that -- if anything had gone wrong with the condo, I was instructed to call the owners. So I suppose if there had been a problem it could have been quite inconvenient since they couldn't just move us to another room. A risk I was willing to take considering the low rate!

Yes, because we have normally paid closer to $200 and extra for parking, although we have had nice views on higher floors.

Sorry to butt in on your post, Michelle. I'd be interested to hear about the Times Square Suites too. We love staying at that end of town.

Another place I really like in that end of town is the Pendrell Suites. It's not inexpensive, but some of the suites are huge, and they are very unique. They do have specials from time to time. It's a nice place to go with another couple or family, and get one of the larger suites. A real "home away from home" feel.

It's become a popular locale for movie scenes (click on "Hollywood News" on their website to see what's been filmed their recently), and I think I remember that one of the apartments was "Agent Scully's" apartment in the X-Files tv show too. They even do "X-Tours" and such. So, it's an interesting place if you're into Hollywood, movies, etc. It's in a residential neighborhood but close to Robson, Stanley Park, etc. Nice little courtyard out back. http://www.pendrellsuites.com
