On the way to Whistler

We have booked 10 days in Whistler for a restful early fall holiday. We would like to book 3 days somewhere on the way up from Vancouver, not too far off the Sea to Sky highway, that would provide equally beautiful mountain and perhaps water views or location. We do not want to drive on twisty, narrow mountain roads to get there, so easy access is important for us. Thanks for all suggestions.

There are at least 2 bus companies that make the run from the Vancouver airport or downtown to Whistler. The fares are quite reasonable when you with the daily rental car that will be sitting for days at Whistler. The bus ride is between 2 hours and 2:20 from Vancouver to Whistler.

Thanks, Tom. Our original plan was to experience a few places in British Columbia, beyond Victoria and Vancouver, which we've explored in the past. We don't need to do a lot of sightseeing; we just want to enjoy the surroundings and short walks. Whistler sounds pretty special, so I have booked us there for 10 days. Is it tedious to take day trips from Whistler? Are high, narrow, twisting roads involved? If it would be a chore to take day trips, we would indeed more likely just park the car and enjoy a restful stay in Whistler. A car rental for two weeks will cost $600.U.S. at least, so a bus would make more sense if we will be staying put. We have already booked air for two weeks, with our last hotel night booked near YVR airport. That leaves the first three days of our trip still not booked. Is there a town, a location with beautiful views, suitable for short walks, just enjoying nature, somewhere on the way to Whistler from Vancouver; a place to which we could travel by bus from the airport and three days later board another bus to Whistler? I know Squamish is along route 99. Does the bus stop there? Are there other towns along route 99 that would be suitable? We are older and don't want to drag luggage over long distances. But we don't want to pay for a car we don't need either. Thanks for all advice. We do want to keep it simple.
