On my way to MONTREAL! I need ideas....

I will be in Montreal from July 12-16. I will be combing this board for ideas and suggestions but if anyone wants to give me a head start please post info here. This is my second trip to Montreal. I was there last July and had a great time. Any advise on interesting sights, great restaurants (I love French food!), shopping, etc will be appreciated.

I am staying at the Hyatt Regency which I won as a Priceline bid for $82 a night. What a great deal!

If anyone is interested I will be blogging LIVE! from Montreal July 12-16. Here is the web address where I will be posting...

http://richardab.typepad.com/iheartmontreal/

If you go to that site before I depart you can read my blog from last year!

Hi Richardab,
I am familiar with your Paris dining blog and really enjoyed your report. We love Montreal and hope to live there one day... here are our two favourite restaurants:

Chez Ennio
This is such a delightful, quaint gem. THe couple are oh so adorable and the food is terrific. It is a BYOB with a liquor store next door. Very charming and small... always packed and I don't know if they take reservations.

Les remparts in Old Montreal is one of our all time favourites. Excellent food/value and very charming atmosphere.

Bon Voyage!

Hi richardab ~ I was perusing the Canada board for a future adventure and debating between Montreal and Quebec City. I think Quebec City has won as we love small walkable cities, but I am going to tune in to your blog, thanks for the invite and enjoy.

cmcfong ~ if you stop by here again, I will steal a moment from richardab's thread to wish you well on your adventure tomorrow - I will hope for good weather for you, dear!

At Olympic Park---there's a great botanical garden and a fascinating biodome. Easy to get to by metro

Bonjour Richard!
I love going to Montreal when Holt Renfrew is having a sale, usually in August but you have to browse through the store anyway..
I love and miss Montreal..my ( and the Yankees) fave restaurant is still Café Ferreira - Portugese seafood..wonderful.
We always enjoy L'Express ...
Have fun, will definitely read the blog

One of the things we enjoyed doing in Montreal was kayaking on the calm river just north of downtown Montreal. It's almost therapeutic to float on the calm water amongst the rustic scenery.

Richard, I just read your Paris blog. I'm working in Montreal this summer, but I'm also going to Paris for a week in September, so your restaurants reviews were interesting. So nice (and reassuring!) to hear about affordable restaurants there.

Wow, I really enjoyed your blog!! It is very detailed and is going to help me a lot. We are taking tour on a charter bus on July 16 to Canada from Monterrey Mexico. It is going to be an awesome experience. We are going to visit Memphis, Washington D.C., Atlantic City, New York, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Niagara Falls. So, I will keep up with your blog. Thank you for sharing!

Just got back from Montreal (haven't even unpacked yet, so no trip report typed) but I loved L'Epicerie, expensive, but well worth it for a special treat. The presentation is novel, quirky, beautiful depending on the dish and the food was incredibly delicious with a wonderful combination of flavors and innovative pairings. The decor is more casual (bistro style chairs, not plush cushioned).
We also truly enjoyed Bistot Boris. The meal was great and the chocolate fondant was scrumptious. The meal was made all the more memorable by a sudden downpour forcing all fo us indoors at once. The staff was amazing, getting that many people inside so rapidly that the food was still hot!
