Old Montreal restaurants
 

We will be in Montreal for the Formula 1 race in June this year. I've already booked Buonanotte and need 2 other restaurants for dinner. We'd like one night in Old Montreal and the other in any fun neighbourhood. Moderately expensive, good service, charming atmosphere. Any suggestions? Merci!

My husband and I LOVED La Brunoise -- on a quiet, romantic street in the Plateau neighborhood. Fantastic food.

In Old Montreal, a native recommended to me Gibby's, particularly if you enjoy steak. Apparently the atmosphere is great too.

La Chronique has also been recommended to us too (forget which neighborhood), but it may fall in the more expensive category.

Cheers! Montreal is a lot of fun.

Modavie on St. Paul street is charming and has jazz nightly, be sure to reserve though.
Café Cherrier near St. Denis also has atmosphere; a large covered outdoor area.
I'm trying to think of places where it's fun to stroll before and after dinner.
Carrissima on Mt Royal street is also a fun, moderate place, good food; the area is bustling ; it's between st. laurent and st. denis streets.

I also recommend La Brunoise! My favourite in town by far.

Les remparts is one of our all time favourites. Excellent food/value and very charming atmosphere.

Les Halles on Crescent Street - a fun neighbourhood (expensive, excellent)

Also try the BYOB bistros on St. Denis - another hip area (cheap to moderate)

I didn't really care for Gibby's - slow service, so-so food. It's a big tourist draw though. Consider La Maree or Le St-Amable instead (the latter always recommended by a friend who was Montreal restaurant reviewer)

curiousx: Les Halles was closed down last year. It was, indeed, a good restaurant.
