I am currently in the Okanagan so I can tell you what is in season at the moment and will be two weeks from now. Peaches, peaches, peaches!! The pears are doing well and will be ready and believe it or not there are still some late varieties of cherries. The apricots are ready and corn and tomatoes as well. What part of the Okanagan are you goingt to? I think it depends on where you are. I am in Oliver and it is warmer here than Kelowna and Penticton so the crops are a little more advanced. Oh yes, some very early varieties of apples are starting but the good ones aren't until Sept.

Hi Sludick I am supposed to wave to you in Victoria!!!! We are very fortunate to have a place in the Okanagan as well - we have the best of all worlds including going to Arizona in the winter. I am looking forward to your trip report.
The apples are certainly in full season then. If you drive down to Oliver - before you get to town maybe 3 - 5 kms north of Oliver you will see a sign for Covert Farms. The road is Seacrest. You must go up there. They have pick your everything but they have bins of the most wonderful apples and the price is incredibly low. They have so many interesting veggies etc - dozens of differnt kinds of squash wonderful corn etc. They have a little deli type restaurant as well (very rustic) but the sandwiches are great and they even do spaghetti squash pasta. You can wander around their garden. I go up there 2 or 3 times a week to get the produce when it is fresh. You are only 20 - 25 mins away when you are in Penticton Klam chowder so be sure to drive down. Come into Oliver - it is the Wine Capital of Canada. Nice little town.

The fire is actually directly across the river from us on the opposite hill so I have watched it from the beginning. It isn't exactly small but it hasn't involved large trees mainly shrubs and lower brush etc. The town was never really in danger because it traveled up and over the mountain away from town. There are lots of areas still burning but seemed to be under control. This morning when I got up I could see that there is an area that has broken out and looks like it is involving taller trees. WE have had non stop helicopters with water buckets and fire retardent so hopefully they will get that under control before it gets too far. Thankfully this morning is a lot cooler and the wind has died down.

Thanks for the report. We were in the Okanagan last year in early spring and found it to be beautiful. Some friends just came back from there with apricots as big as grapefruits. Let's hope the fires are put out ASAP.
