OCAD in Toronto
From the photos, the Ontario College of Art & Design building that's propped up on giant pencils looks wonderful.
Does anyone know if there is a tour of the building, or a way to see the inside? The OCAD website doesn't mention anything. |
Most of the big box part of OCAD is classrooms and offices, and there's nothing much interesting about it, according to an OCAD teacher I was talking with a couple of weeks ago.
Even for this year's openhouse (you missed it) there was appratently not much of the top part of the building included. Out doors, it certainly is worth walking up, and under. BAK |
Thank you, BAK. I guess it stands to reason that the inside is just a box.
By the way, what do people in the neighbourhood think of the building? |
I used to live directlya cross the street from OCAD, but moved away long before the new addition.
But I'm still in the neighborhood and enjoy walking by. And it is visible from Queen Street West, so when I see obvious tourists near the street with the vierw (McCaul) I direct their attention. They seem to get a kick out of it. BAK |
It's ugly up close and looks like a strong wind could blow it down - we can see it from the 51st floor blocks away. MAYBE it will fit better when the Frank Gehry-designed art gallery addition is complete but I doubt it.

The building would look quite acceptable on a very foggy day
