Novotel Mississauga to downtown
 

We are coming to Toronto shortly and are thinking of staying at the Novotel Mississauga ( we have friends near there ) Can someone tell me how far Mississauga is from downtown Toronto. Cab fare would be ? Is this way out of town ?

It would depend on traffic, and Toronto is famous for that !! Look at taking the GoTrain into town, there are a few stations in Mississauga....

Cab fare would be a LOT of money. It really wouldn't be a very good idea. But the GO train would be perfect. YOu could take a short cab ride to the train station. You'd want to go the Meadowvale station or Streetsville station and it would be about 45 minutes on the train to downtown. And I think the cost would be about $12. return, but I'm just guessing. I'd say if it weren't for your friends living nearby, it wouldn't be a very convenient hotel for visiting Toronto.

The Novotel Mississauga is one of those places you can't get to from here.
Mississauga is a city of about 600,000, and the hotel is pretty much right in the middle.

The part of Troonto you want to get to is near the lake. So you need to go south, and then east, and there are no expressways to handle this route.

Cab would be, at a guess, at least $60.

By public transist, the easiest thing to do would be walk across the street to the Square One shopping center, get on a Mississaugua bus, take that bus halfway across Mississauga to the edge of Toronto. Get off that bus and get on the Toronto subway system. Ride for a while to the St. George station, and change to a southbound subway train (easy to do) and, perhaps an hour and a quartter after you left the hotel, you'd be in downtown Toronto.

Driving would be a lot easier, but still take a while. Expressways takeyou to a part of Toronto you don't want to visit, and then city streets take you downtown, or you could take city streets in Mississauga to an expressway, and then get downtown rapidly. Either way, 40 minutes minimum outside of rush hour.

If your friends have a car, and you are only going to visit with them for a short while, you'd be better off staying downtown, with them coming downtown to see you.

About the GO train. Chances are it leaves downtown to get you back to the hotel neighborhood only once an hour in the evenings and the middle of the day. And the GO station is still a cab ride from the hotel.

Oops! Sorry, I was thinking this was the hotel at Mississauga Rd and the 401, which is why I mentioned the GO train. Forgive me and forget all I wrote. BAK is quite right, in his directions for public transit. And it would be very time consuming.

Well thank you all for the good information. We've changed our minds and will now look at hotels much nearer downtown.

Did you try the Novotel (Downtown To.) on The Esplanade? Great location! I don't think you wld be happy on the Lakeshore (this is re your other post about Sheraton 4 Points)

Why do you think we might not be pleased if we stayed at Four Points Lakeshore ?

..re four points..the back of the hotel backs on the the gardiner epressway..i think there is less than 10 ft from the hotel to the elevated highway..it is also not that convenient to downtown..as the crow flies it is but public transit to downtown from this location is awkward..you can drive but parking downtown can be epensive..there are better choices.

Galiano, Geezzzz, I can only shake my head sometimes.

The Four Points Sheraton has a halway alog the back side of the hotel, facing the Gardniner Expressway, so there's a thick brick/concrete block wall and closed windows, then a hallway, then interior hotel walls and doors, blocking the sound from the highway.

And the Queen Street streetcar is a block from the hotel, and an interesing ride to downtown. Also a block from the hotel are bus stops that take you west to Sherway Gardens shopping center or north to the Runnymede subway station. But the streetcar is more fun.

I stand semi-corrected. I just phoned the hotel; there are, in fact, some rooms at the back. It depends on where you are in the hotel.

So book a room on the front if you are worried, but it's probably quieter at night than many downtown hotels where there are people out and about shouting drunkenly when the bars close.
