Nova Scotia/Newfoundland July /Aug

Hello! I've been reading several posts from everyone on the above mentioned destination. WOW, so many helpful tips. We, (self, husband, adult son), will be flying from Tampa to Bangor ME, renting a car and heading to NS. We are very much "outdoorsmen", don't need or want touristy places. Our son is an avid fly fisherman, and will be bringing his fly reel.
Have spent time in other areas of Canada, but wanted to explore this area. What are some thoughts on the drive btwn Bangor and NS? Or better idea to go to Newfoundland first? We will have 10 to 12 days before flying back out from Bangor. We are looking at travel being end of July, and into Aug. Oh yeah, on a budget also!
Thanks!

Would possibly like to add in PEI, now staying for a full 2 weeks!

Before you plan your road trip, do you know that if you take a car to Newfoundland there is a 6 to 8 hour ferry trip from North Sydney, NS to Port aux Basques, NL? It is a big Province so I do not think you can see it all during the two weeks you spend in the Atlantic Provinces. Let us know how many days you would like to spend in each province and then we can map out a routing.

with only two weeks, i would just stick to nova scotia and pei. sounds like cape breton is a good fit for your family so i'd plan on 4 nights there. don't know much about fly fishing but you could check about getting out on an ocean fishing trip - we went out of north rustico on pei. when on pei, spend time at greenwich park.

Ok, sounds like we may be doing NS and PEI. Leaving NL for another time. I haven't booked anything yet, and don't know how long in either area. I appreciate the cape Breton suggestion! I will check it out for sure. Any other ideas? Thx!
