Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI in 7 Days

It'll be two people as a couple travelling to these three Maritime provinces in late August. We fly into Halifax on Sat morning (landing around noon) and flying back out from Charlottetown the following Saturday at around 6pm. We'll be renting a car for the drives.

We're both Maritime newbies who would like to see arts and culture and experience what locals like to do. We would also like to take in some of the major scenery offered in these provinces (Peggy's Cove Bay of Fundy, Cape Breton, etc).

Here's a rough outline on what we have so far. Any suggestions, recommendations, or things to be aware of would be greatly appreciated. The biggest question is, should we take the ferry from NS to PEI or drive through NB. Is it too much to try and cram NB into this trip?

Day 1 (Saturday): Halifax, experience the city life. Will likely stay near downtown. Should we rent a car or is it a walkable experience? Lunch and dinner here, tour of the Alexander Keith's brewery.
Day 2 (Sunday): Peggy's Cove and back to Halifax at night.
Day 3 (Monday): Bay of Fundy (should I do this on the NS or NB side?)
Day 4 (Tueday):Drive out to Cape Breton (Cape Breton Island? - what's the difference). Not planning on camping so where should we eat/stay?
Day 5 (Wednesday) - Day 6 (Thursday): Reserving these days for suggestions and in case Cape Breton is foggy on Tuesday. It'll also depend if people recommend us going through NB to reach PEI or take the ferry.
Day 7 (Friday): Arrive in PEI, Lobster Dinner. Are there car drop offs at the NS point of the ferry and another car pickup on the PEI side? Overnight in Charlottetown.
Day 8 (Saturday): Explore Charlottetown. Lunch. Fly out.

Based on feedback from some of the other forums (unfortunately I heard nothing here), we are removing New Brunswick from our trip. If anyone has any suggestions on improving our itinerary, that would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 (Saturday): Halifax, experience the city life
Day 2 (Sunday): Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg, back to Halifax for overnight stay
Day 3 (Monday): Bay of Fundy, Annapolis Valley, Wolfville, back to Halifax for overnight stay
Day 4-6 (Tuesday - Thurs): Cape Breton - debating if I should stick to one spot to stay overnight vs choosing a few along the trail
Day 7 (Friday): Head to PEI via ferry, overnight in Charlottetown
Day 8 (Saturday): Explore Charlottetown, fly out

With just 8 days, I would drop PEI from your itinerary, and add another day to Halifax. Save PEI for another trip. Rather than returning to Halifax on Days 2 and 3, I would suggest this:

Day 1--Arrive in Halifax and explore.

Day 2--Halifax

Day 3--Halifax to Cape Breton. Overnight in Baddeck

Day 4--Cabot Trail. Overnight in Baddeck

Day 5--Cape Breton to Wolfville

Day 6--Explore Annapolis Valley, then to Lunenburg overnight

Day 7--Lunenburg, Chester, Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove, overnight in Halifax.

Day 8--Fly home from Halifax

You could also do this the other way round, and on Day 7 go from Cape Breton to Truro, stay overnight in Truro and then on Day 8 drive from Truro to Halifax Airport. The airport is so far from downtown that it's almost as easy to get there from Truro.

I already booked the flight home from PEI so we have to go there regardless.

Hi, did you do this trip. I am planning on a road trip thisMay, do you have any tips to share? Where did you stay and any must see places? We have 9 days in total.

The OP has not been on Fodors since mid-May -- likely won't see your question.

Why not start a new thread of your own . . .
