nova scotia in the fall

we are planning a trip to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton in the fall. Would love to see some fall foliage but are also concerned about weather that far north.
Would the end of Sept or beginning of October be best to travel to all three places.

In terms of weather, the end of Sept/beginning of Oct is a good time to visit NS and PEI. I don't know the optimum time for leaves. Late Sept to perhaps 3rd week in Oct?

Just a reminder that Canadian Thanksgiving in 2013 is Monday, Oct 14 so that will be a busy weekend. So reserve flights if you are flying & accomodations asap if you plan to be in NS & PEI over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Celtic Colors Festival on Cape Breton Island, NS runs from Friday, Oct 11 to Saturday, Oct 19 in 2013. It always begins on the Friday before Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
