Nova Scotia in November
 

Planning to visit NS in November for 4 days with husband and 3 children - ages 17, 14 & 4 - any and all ideas appreciated. Hotels, attractions, great seafood locations, shopping, etc. Thinking of Halifax but not final. Thanx.

Given November can be a very bleak month, I would suggest Halifax as your destination within Nova Scotia. Stay downtown (Westin, Prince George, Ramada, etc. all have indoor pools). Mic Mac Mall has great shopping (located across the harbour in Dartmouth). Of course, Spring Garden Road, West End Mall and the Bayers Lake Park (mostly outlets) are equally fine. You might want to check out the hockey schedule at the Metro Centre and take in a Moosehead's game. There is the Discovery Centre on Barrington St. (science centre), Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on the Waterfront (such displays as Titanic and shipwrecks) and the Museum of Natural History on Bell Road (main displays change frequently). You can take a day trip out to Peggy's Cove (great rock jumping for the kids but be careful and don't get too close to the water). Point Pleasant Park in the city's south end is a great place for a walk and to discover some remnants of the old forts. Citadel Hill may also be open that time of year. There is also great swimming at the Dartmouth Sportsplex (have a huge pirate slide thing happening). The Art Gallery is a great place to spend a few hours and usually on one Sunday per month they have a family event.<BR><BR>well, a few things to consider. Hope you enjoy your time in Nova Scotia!

I stayed at both the delta and the Casino hotel (sheraton) and I HIGHLY recommend the casino hotel, it is much newer and nicer, also ask for a casino rate, even if you dont go to the casino, it will be cheap. There is a good restaurant at the casino (TGIF), MicMac mall is a pretty good shopping mal, you might want to walk the waterfront, but it may be cool outside.

Depending on which time you are going the Christmas at the Forum is often a good place to go to find some local foods and crafts. Go early if you want a parking spot. <BR><BR>Dunno how much the older kids would enjoy it, but the 4 yr old would almost certainly love the Discovery Centre, which Tanya mentioned. Lotsa fun activities for kids. I'm 16 and I STILL love the bubble room! :-)<BR><BR>Also seconding Tanya's Mooseheads game suggestion. They're ALOT of fun, and very affordable. Can't remember the adult ticket price (I'm a student at $8.50), but the kids tickets are $7.50 a piece. <BR><BR>One thing Tanya forgot to mention was the Alexander Keith's Brewery Tour on Lower Water St. It's a lot of fun. I can't remember the family rate offhand (assuming there is one), but I know my ticket cost me $9, with 2 mugs of beer included (don't worry- it's lemonade and iced tea for us minors!) It's very well done by the actor/tour guides and is quite historically accurate, and it's very interactive.<BR><BR>Pier 21 on Marginal Road at the far, far south end of the waterfront, past the wooden boardwalk is an excellent museum as well. Very well done. <BR><BR>I'm not sure if the Harbour Hopper would run in November, but the kids would almost defintely love that. Amphibious vehicle that takes your tour from land to sea. <BR><BR>-jane.<BR><BR>

Lots of great suggestions in the previous post. As for restaurants - in the downtown core there is Mother Tuckers, East Side Mario's(family friendly). My kids love the Triangle, My Father's Mustache and of course the Keg being their fav!<BR><BR>Seafood locations - you can get a good reasonable seafood dinner at Historic Properties - John's Seafoods. It is an upscale foodcourt with lots of other choices (pasta, pizza, sandwiches, desserts) with a microbrewery. <BR><BR>If you are staying downtown, the food court at Scotia Square isn't bad for a quick bite at reasonable prices. The lebanese kiosk is great - try his chicken pita sandwiches. <BR><BR>Don't forget pizza corner (Blowers/Grafton) where you can get a huge slice of pizza for about $3. If the chip trucks are still operating, Bud the Spud on Spring Garden Road makes the best french fries.<BR><BR>On Saturday morning's at the Keith Brewery they have the farmer's market - great spot to pick up breakfast or lunch and to shop for unique Christmas presents.
