Nova Scotia in July

We have finalized our itinerary for our trip to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
1st night Bangor Maine
2nd and third night Bay of Fundy area
Fourth night Baddeck
Fifth, Sixth and Seventh night Cape Breton. Not sure what town yet.
Eighth night Halifax
Nineth and last night Lunenburg.
We will take the ferry to Portland Maine via Falmouth on the last day.

We have a yellow labrador retriever that will be with us. Any ideas for places to stay in Cape Breton area would be great. Also, does anyone know about the Tall ships in Halifax on the 16th. We would like to see the parade of ships come in but are not sure where we could see the parade with our dog and where to stay in Halifax. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Just make sure you have all your papers for your dog and that you have your passports or passport cards.
I'm curious to see the answers to your questions as we'd love to do a similar trip next summer!
Hope you have a great time.

Tall ships - the actual sail is on Monday, the 20th. The ships will be in port from about the 15th to 20th. They randomly come in and moor. It is a busy time, hotels expensive. Dog friendly, not sure, but I think the Holiday Inn Express on Kearney Lake Road is. Not downtown, but about a 20 minute or so drive depending on traffic.

I think you mean the ferry in Yarmouth? You are probably about a 3 hour drive from Lunenburg - two way traffic so not a fast route.

In Cape Breton, definitely spend a night in Baddeck.

Love the Dunlop Inn in Beddeck. It is not a typical B&B because it is run by the Telegraph Inn so you are more independent and it sits on the water - a beautiful view. Also, lots of music/bands, many with the scottish/ celtic influence, so try to find a good spot to listen one night.
Enjoy your trip!

Does the Dunlop Inn allow dogs?

According to the www.BBCanada.com website, the Dunlop Inn does accept dogs, but this is something I would definitely double-check before booking. Do check out that website for all reservations, very handy.

In Baddeck there are the great Baddeck Gathering ceilidhs every night of the week, and the food is excellent at the Water's Edge restaurant down by the marina or the Highwheeler Cafe.

Definitely drive the Cabot Trail - there are lots of fantastic hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty. If you can, pick up a secondhand copy of Hiking Trails of Cape Breton on the way there. The beach at Margaree Harbour is beautiful, as is the one at Marble Moutain, which is exit 3 going towards Baddeck from the Causeway...if you drive around the Cabot Trail, head north to Meat Cove, which is pretty spectacular, then come back around the east coast of the island, dotted with old fishing villages. You can visit the old French fortress at Louisbourg, and take in the quaint fishing village of Gabarus, beautiful at sunset. If you continue along the shore, the EcoTrail on Ile Madame is worth a trip, beautiful scenery and a good hike.

Thanks for all the info. Just got back from a mini vacation and now finalizing details and places to stay. I think we will stay one night in Baddeck at the Cabot Trail Motel since they allow dogs. Then we were thinking of driving clockwise up the Cabot Trail. Has anyone heard of the Four Mile Inn in Cape North, Asby Bay? They have a couple of apartments that allow dogs. The inn was written up in one of the guides. Not sure if there is anything in Cape North like restaurants or if we have to drive towards Neils Beach for food.
My husband was wondering about staying in Neils Beach. Not sure if it is too touristy or if there are places with dogs.
We leave in about a week. We are looking forward to it. Any ideas are welcomed!
