Nova Scotia:hotels/bb's/restaurants
even though trip is planned on a motorcycle, looking for ideas for overnight accomodations, not fancy, reasonable but clean, b&b's fine, and restaurants.
Going from Boston to Barharbor (an overnight there) and morning to ferry to Yarmouth,, Halifax one night and up to do, counter clock-wise Cabot Trail and back to NS to yarmouth. any ideas welcome. thanks. |
we stayed one night at the Bar Harbor Motel before taking the ferry in the morning. It was clean and simple and not too expensive. And very close to the ferry pier.
There are nicer, more charming places in downtown Bar Harbor. Depending on if you are spending any time there, you might prefer being in town, but if its really just an overnight the motel is good. (just don't eat at the place right next door, Jack something or other. They make their own beer and its terrible. The food is mediocre.) |
thank you for your help - it is just an overnight, a place to stay before the ferry - it is my husband traveling alone, but he asked me to post to see if anyone had suggestions so I will pass along. thankx

there is a great motel in port hawksbury if he wanted that as a stopping place on the to or from the cabot trail. capeway motel, 625-2524, basic, very clean and the owner is very nice. there's only about 6 units. inexpesive too.
in halifax i stayed at the waverley inn. great location but it was about $130. i'd stay there again. |
Is he going to take the lighthouse route from Yarmouth to Halifax? If so, his timing might be such that he can stop in Shelburne for lunch at the Charlotte Lane Cafe (we were in a car, but the timing from the morning ferry put us in Shelburne for a late lunch). It's definitely a worthwhile stop. the food was different, some unusual combinations. I had a salad of feta and watermelon with coriander-lime dressing. sounds weird, but yummy. It's a nice place. and maybe he's not interested in such things, but the little gift shop in front of the restaurant had some of the nicest crafts I saw on our trip (tell him to bring you a present :-) ).

am passing along the name of restaurant in last post, and yes, gift shop too. he loves all types of different food/salads/etc so it sounds perfect. b/c of rain here trip has been postponed until five days from now, so he has a bit more time to plan and make calls to mentioned hotels and restaurants - thank you all for everything so far !
