Nova Scotia: Fort Louisbourg?

I pretty much have my husband's and my 10 day/11 night Nova Scotia itinerary planned. We're leaving for NS in about 3 weeks. But I'm wondering if we should spend the time to go see Fort Louisbourg. We will have spent the night in Baddeck, drive over to see Fort Louisbourg and then leave mid-afternoon and spend the night in Ingonish. Is Fort Louisbourg worth all of that driving which is partially out-and-back? I know I could find other things to do with that time, but if the fort is really interesting, we'd be willing to do the drive. We are in our late 50s but are also very active. Thanks for any input!

That's hard to say - I'm assuming you are not Canadian? From the historical perspective it's certainly of great interest to Canadians. Do you like forts?

We stayed in Baddeck and drove to Louisbourg - it's an easy one hour drive. And then it looks like it's about 2 1/2 hours to Ingonish. Do you like driving?

We really enjoyed our time there - the interpreters are interesting and fun and the overall site is very pretty.

You might want to just play it by ear and do it if the weather is good.....not sure even this history obsessed Canadian would have gone in the rain!
