Nova Scotia - Bed and Breakfasts- do I have to dress up??

I'm firming up our drive plans around Nova Scotia....we are staying at a few Bed and Breakfasts. We are also staying at beachside cottages....We like to travel in jeans/tees/sweat shirts....Do I need to bring dressier clothes for the B&B's?

I'm like MsLizzy, I don't generally wear sweatshirts, but I'm sure you'll be ok.

cazyb, I don't know why a NS B & B wld be "dressy". I don't think of B & B's as formal places. If you are in doubt, then why not bring at least one pair of "non jeans" pants, a "non T- shirt" top & a sweater or jacket/blazer just in case? Go for the "smart casual" look!
When are you going to NS?
Which "beachside cottages" have you booked? We are looking for something near Hubbards, NS...any suggestions?

I have to say I'm a more casual person, and I think you'll be fine in jeans and t's and sweatshirts, as long as they are neat and clean ,and not the huge oversized ones.

I wore my jeans and t shirts all over Nova Scotia.
You'll be fine.
It's not like you are going out fine dining. you are talking about breakfast.
You'll be dressed for a day of siteseeing or on the road. Be comfortable.

Totally agree...I am right here on the sunny South Shore of NS this very minute, in jeans and a turtle-neck (I am not a sweat-shirt person). This is my daily uniform, switching to a T-shirt in summer.

However, I would just add that if you are planning to have dinner in anything but the most casual pizza place or diner (and it would be a shame if you didn't 'cause we have some fabulous restaurants in NS), you will probably want to tuck in a slightly more formal look for evening. Personally, I go with a slightly dressier top and good slacks.

We found Nova Scotia very informal. Since a lot of people spend a lot of time outdoors, showing up for breakfast at a B&B in hiking pants and boots was perfectly OK.

I'd say jeans with holes and torn t-shirts might be out of line, but beyond that, don't worry about it.

In addition, most of the restaurants out in the towns were pretty informal. I took one pair of khakis and nice polo shirt and that was as formal as we got. Sure, there are formal restaurants in the cities and some of the towns, but most places are pretty laid back.

As the owners of a luxury B&B in Nova Scotia, we agree that casual wear fits in with the relaxed pace of our Province. Have a great trip!

There are degrees of casual.

Dress to respect the food, the chef, and the other guests.

My wife and I operate a 4 1/2 Star B&B in Sydney on Cape Breton Island and, as most responders here have stated, dress at B&Bs is very casual. In Cape Breton dress at restaurants is also casual.

Cheers
