Northern Lights Aurora Borealis, August

Hi,
Where might be the best place to hang out in August to catch the Northern Lights? I'll be in the NW (USA) and BC for July and would like to head north in August and just wait for the lights, possibly September too. I'm looking for a good spot to watch from, and an affordable place to stay for a couple months. Does this even exist in BC?

Thanks!!

My post from two months ago might help: http://www.fodors.com/community/cana...s-269968-2.cfm

The best northern lights I ever saw was on a taxi ride from Jasper out to the HI Hostel SW of town. There is a time limit on the Hostel. I would have slept through it if my train had not been many hours late.

Thanks for the responses, the Jasper HI looks like the more affordable of the two. It would be nice to be able to take on e of those packages!

I wonder if there are more options out there in or near Aurora friendly BC where it might be likely to rent a room or cabin cheaply for a month or two? Or is the whole province just expensive (except for the Jasper HI!)?

I have stayed at this HI hostel several times. http://www.hihostels.ca/westerncanad...tel?page=rates
You can also go to the HI hostel at Maligne Canyon.
