North Pole

Has anyone gone to the North Pole via icebreaker? We are interested in that for next summer. Would appreciate any info.

I don't think the North Pole is actually IN Canada... :)

Sounds like a kind of lonely trip...

Thanks for geography lesson, Dan. Now tell me in which forum the question more properly belongs.

I would like to know if others feel that going to the north pole and standing on top of the world would be a lonely trip or fantastically exciting.

The north pole is not exactly a tourist destination. I can see where it would be fantastic in theory. There are flights out on to the icecap and a few photography expeditions to see polar bears. I have not heard of any boats that would take civilians. ie not coast guard or on some research project.

A Russian icebreaker goes to the pole twice in the summer. Check out www.quark-expeditions.com or e-mail me for info.
