Niagra Falls in April
I plan on taking my fiance on a trip to NF in April 2001 for his 30th Birthday. Can anyone give me suggestions on must-do's. We plan on staying at the "Travelodge" near Niagra Falls since I heard its close to everything. How is the weather in NF in April? Will the Falls be crowded? How about that hotel?? Thanks in advance.

I think a must see in Niagara Falls is the Butterfly Conservatory (Canadian side). It doesn't take that long to go through but it's fantastic to see all the butterflies -- especially the blue morphos.

A side trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake is always nice too.

Niagara Falls will not be crowded. Weather will be like New York City in April; maybe rainy, probably will be sunny, you'll still need a light coat during the day.
Take the Maid of the Mist boat trip to the foot of the falls.
Tehre's a big casino; decide howmuch money you are willing to lose.
Look for discount books at your hotel. You'll save lots of money on cheap, weird, but fun, museums and spookhouses.

BAK

Dear Denise,

I grew up in the area. I don't recommend staying in Niagara Falls - I find it rather tacky, filled with bad restaurants, etc.
Since you are going off season, I recommend staying in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's a very pretty little town, very Victorian. They have a lot of B&B's that I think can give you better value for your money than the Travelodge. They also have a rather expensive group of hotels that are beautiful - if you have the budget check them out at vintageinns.com/
I wouldn't worry about being centrally located - you will need a car and driving is quite easy in the area. April in Niagara is off-season. The weather will probably in the 50's.
Other ideas for spending your time- depending on what part of the month you are travelling - check out the Shaw Festival Theatre. I think the season starts in late April. All of the seats are excellent and the productions are top notch. You can also do a winery tour. There are many in the Niagara Region.

Best of Luck - Have Fun1

In an earlier posting someone suggested to take a ride on the Maid Of The Mist. The Maid of the Mist doesn't open until May.

My vote definitely goes to NOL for accommodations. You will find rates are very competitive, but the setting and ambience is vastly superior. Our favorite is the Moffat Inn. Town also has excellent restaurants within walking distance, unique shops, winery tours etc.
Don't miss the Butterfly Conservatory. If you want good seats for the Shaw, on a specific date investigate now.
These websites may help.
