Never been to Niagara Falls or Niagara-on-the-Lake... but BOTH are Canadian towns, both on the Canadian side. From what I've gathered on here (and elsewhere), Niagara Falls is just that - the actual town/city around the falls with many tacky tourist shops. As someone said once before, "It's Canada's Las Vegas..." Niagara on the Lake is a quaint picturesque town famous for its wineries... I'd imagine Niagara on the Lake is a relatively short drive away from Niagara Falls - but both are in Canada.

There is a Niagara Falls in New York State, just across the border from Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Ontario one (on the Canadian side, obviously) is apparently a prettier place from which to view the falls themselves, or so I've heard - I've never actually seen them from the American side, but they are quite wonderful from the Canadian side. The town of Niagara Falls, Ontario, is where the wax museum is. There is a street called Clifton Hill, the main street in the tourist area, that has the wax museum and lots of other tacky touristy stuff. The town of Niagara on the Lake is on the Canadian side, about a 10-15 minute drive along the Niagara Parkway from Niagara Falls. It's also touristy, but in a different way; it's quiet, sort of quaint, with lots of hotels and nice restaurants. The Shaw Festival is held there. Hope this helps.

Wax museum is in NF, Ontario. You'll be overwhelmed by the mobs of tourists....NOTL is much more laid back, relaxing.

Niagara on the Lake is quaint with B&B's, tons of wineries, shops, galleries, and restaurants. And, it is only about 10 min. from Niagara Falls on the Canadian side (which is the fun side). We stay in Niagara on the Lake and go to the casino and walk around Niagara for an afternoon.

It's fun.

Theresa
