Niagara Falls Hotels
 

We are planning a trip to Niagara Falls in early June and are looking for some advice concerning hotels in the area. I am finding good rates for our dates at the Fallsview Marriott and Fallsview Radisson, with the Radisson being slightly less expensive. Can anyone give me feedback on these two hotels?

I can't recall exactly where these two hotels are but check to make sure they're not in the Clifton hill area. Although that's nice to see and hang out around, I wouldn't want to have a hotel room around there. I believe the Marriott and Radisson are a short downhill walk to the falls.

I am also planning a trip to Niagara in early June and I was just wondering, SJK, why it is not a good idea to stay in the Clifton hill area?

From the research I've done so far, it seems the Marriott & Radisson are both in the Fallsview area near the top of the falls, not in the Clifton Hill area. I was wondering if the hotels are equal in terms of view & amenities.<BR><BR>Stacy-from what I have been able to find out so far it seems that the Clifton Hill area is home to the "tourist trap" type attractions. That is probably why SJK recommended visiting there but staying elsewhere.

Any one else have input? I am interested in knowing about views of the falls, quality of rooms, etc.

Hi stayed at the Marriott in Feb this year - This is a summery of what I found:<BR>Message: Hi<BR><BR>Partner and I (No kids) stayed (2 nights)at the Marriott in early Feb this year.<BR>We got a very good deal direct through the hotel website.<BR><BR>Pool & Stuff:<BR>The Marriott has a Leisure area at the bottom of the hotel including: pool Whirlpool (Two), Sauna, Steam room, Small Gym. I don't know if you are taking kids with you but if so we saw a few families there - Their kids were using the pool and seemed to be enjoying themselves.<BR>You can use the leisure facilities till about 11pm<BR><BR>About the rooms:<BR>We stayed in a Junior presidential suite which was fine (With it being off season and the superb exchange rate meant we got such a good deal and since it was our first visit to the falls we felt it was worth booking the better room)<BR>The view was spectacular! In the seperate sitting room we had a floor to ceiling window. with a faux fireplace to sit in front of.<BR>The room was what I expect from a quality hotel nothing more. It had a separate sitting room (Small) and a jacuzzi bath but nothing amazing.<BR>With this room we also had access to the concierge room (The Usual Free snacks, drinks (Soft & tea & Coffee) etc). If you don't want a hot breakfast in the morning you might as well have breakfast in the concierge room as the cold choices are good and it is very peaceful up there.<BR>Downstairs there is a bar and a coffee 'shop'.<BR><BR>YOU MUST make sure you get a room with a view.<BR><BR>Restaurant:<BR>Terrapin Grille - Food was fine Menu a bit predictable. <BR>Tables by the window have a view - But if you dine when it is very dark the view was not particularly spectacular. We ate in the hotel restaurant as Breakfast and one dinner was included in our rate however given the option I would not eat dinner there. <BR><BR>There is no on-site/or very close parking so it is all valet and it takes them a good 5-15 mins to go get your car. A bit of a hassle if you are the kind of people that are popping in and out of the hotel often. Something to consider.<BR><BR>The hotel has a lift thing that takes you directly down to the falls, It was not operational when we were there so we had a short walk.<BR><BR>Nearby: Niagara on the Lake is beautiful If you stay at the falls at least try to visit it for the day. There are many wineries (SP?) nearby if you enjoy wine.<BR><BR>When we were there The Maid of the Mist was not running but there were other activities — for example we did The walk behind the falls.<BR><BR>The hotel is in the Fallsview area, in the other areas Niagara can be tacky in parts (Tacky shops/motels) but I for one am glad I went. Have a great time!<BR>If you have any more questions about the hotel post them and I will try to answer them.<BR><BR>

Thanks for your reply, Layla. The Marriott sounds nice, so I think we will stay there. I didn't know about the parking, thanks for clueing me in on that! It will help with budget planning. We will have 2 teens with us, so it's good to know about the pool area, too.<BR><BR>Can you tell me if there are restaurants within walking distance of the hotel? Just another suggestion. You may want to consider staying in Niagara-on-th-Lake if you will be there with a car. Totally different area, still lots of tourists but very charming, quaint. Great for walking around. Check out another post I just read on here but I think they may refer to it as NOTL. About a 20 minute drive from Niagara Falls along a very scenic road.

Jeanie<BR>Glad you found my info useful.<BR><BR>RE: Restaurants <BR><BR>Well I don't know how basic your needs/expectations are But outside the hotel opposite the entrance near the raddison is an Outback steakhouse (Hardly haute Cuisine LOL)<BR><BR>Well about 5 mins walk away (Can't remember the name of the street but was near to the tacky/tourist strip) <BR>There is a street that is full of restaurants - Not high class but Steak & Seafood types (They looked fine just not fancy) On the same street there were also fast food/snack places such as Subway.<BR><BR>You can also have dinner with a view at the top of the Skylon Tower www.skylontower.com<BR><BR>There is the Table rock restaurant facing the Falls - You can see it clearly from the Marriott hotel. You cannot get much closer to the falls.<BR><BR>We did not manage to go but we were recommended the Jade Garden Restauarnt on Victoria Ave (Chinese food)I think its also featured in the Fodors guidebook.<BR><BR>You should have no problem finding many restaurants within a short walking distance.<BR><BR>Have a great time and post your trip report on this message board.<BR><BR>Any more questions about the hotel just let me know.<BR>

I've stayed at the Hilton which overlooks the falls and thought the hotel room was amazing. The was a hot tub in the bathroom with louvre doors so that you can open them out to the bedroom and we had a view of the falls. The nicest room in a hotel I've ever stayed in and there's a pool with slides that you can see through a waterfall in the lobby. Also, restaurant on top floor though very expensive. Going this weekend. Sort of a ritual we have now.

The last time we visited Niagara Falls, we stayed at the Brock Plaza Hotel, one of the original NF hotels. It is a typical "grande" old hotel. Our room was on the 11th floor with an open air terrace. The view of the Falls was postcard-perfect! In fact, if you see the movie "The Whole Nine Yards" with Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry, the final scene before the credits was shot a couple of rooms away from ours. The outside terrace was a real treat and compensated for the bathroom that was a bit old-fashioned(typical older hotel-style bathroom).<BR>The Brock's lobby is connected to several shops, the Casino, a mini Ontario Science Center exhibit, and is adjacent to Planet Hollywood. A parking garage is attached to the hotel and the duty free shop is across the street at the Rainbow Bridge. Service and staff were very helpful and friendly.<BR>Check the rates for the Brock. We had a two room suite and stayed in August, so the rates were above $300 CND/night. Rates should be much lower in early June as opposed to even late June.<BR>The location is very convenient and the view spectacular, so I would consider this hotel, too.

Topping for Phil who has another Niagara thread going

Hi I also stayed at the Brock Hotel last year in mid-June. We got an excellent rate lower than many of the other hotels. The room was a bit old but clean and the hotel was old but still had a glimpse of what it might have looked like when Maralyn Monroe stayed there during the filing of Niagara. Food was not of a very good quality but as previously stated you can walk over the walkway to the casino which also has a fabulous restaurant called the 21. Best meal of our trip.
