Niagara Falls Hotel with Falls View
My husband and I would like to spend 2-3 nights in a fantastic room overlooking the falls -- best view available. Which hotel should I consider, type of room, floor level?
We're considering something around October 1, 2006 -- would that be a good timeframe?
We'd like to do some gambling also. Which casino is the best? Do they have lots of slots (we love this). On the Canadian side do they play with Canadian money?
We're in the early planning stages, but need lots of suggestions.
Thanks for the advice,
Lois

I think the newest hotel has a casino in it and has great views.
Yes, a Canadian casino uses Canadian money....what else would they use?

The ultimate hotel for you is the Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort which features a range of rooms with views of the Falls, a Las Vegas Style casino, 17 Noir a top restaurant, a spa, shopping, and top Vegas acts in their showroom theatre, The Avalon Ballroom.... October is a great time to visit the area... all of the leaves are changing, there is a world renowned wine region 20 minutes away, and you benefit from off season prices...
They do play with Canadian money, but you pay NO TAXES on your winnings and exchange is easily available...
You can't lose on this one...

Another vote for the Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort. It's a beautiful property and the views are tremendous. The Avalon Ballroom is a great venue for performers so check their website for tickets closer to the time you will be visiting.
Make sure you spend a day or two in Niagara on the Lake and the Twenty Valley area visiting wineries, shops and fabulous restaurants. There are usually weekend specials in the Fall for wine and food tastings if that interests you at all. Some of the smaller wineries like Vineland Estates and Cave Springs Winery near Jordan are great for tastings and also boast wonderful dining experiences, even for lunch.

Great suggestions. I'll do some research now.
The question I had regarding the casinos and if they used Canadian money was because we were in St. Kitts recently and stayed at the Marriott there. We fully expected the casino to use EC dollars (about 1 of ours to 3 of theirs -- it would have been great). BUT they used American dollars as they were a "Marriott". So I now take nothing for granted.
What would be the lowest floor we should consider to get a great view of both falls?

From the Washington, DC area, what is the least expensive way to get there non-stop (into Buffalo), and what's the best transportation to the Marriott Fallsview Hotel?
Would a taxi from the Buffalo airport to there be costly???

Hi Lois,
Usually Jet Blue offers inexpensive flights into Buffalo. And the Niagara Air Bus will deliver you to the hotel from the Buffalo airport. niagaraairbus.com
If you're staying at the Marriott Fallsview, check the website for prices as I think above the 12th floor the rates go up which would indicate the better view.
Also I believe the Casino Niagara is smoke free unlike the Fallsview Casino Resort if that makes a difference to you.

Was just chatting with someone about what she did for Christmas and one night she and husband stayed at the Fallsview - she said they had a view of both the US and Canadian falls from the 17th floor - said it was spectacular.

I did not realize there were 2 casinos in the area -- is Casino Niagara right by the Fallsview also? Is it in Canada?
I just heard about the Renaissance too (with a walkway to the casino) -- how would this compare to the Marriott Fallsview (which is what we are now considering)?
Thanks for the great tips everyone.

Lois... Be careful about your choice...there is great competition for your resort dollar during the off season and properties are likely to promise you the world to book with them over the Fallsview Resort Casino.... but why would you want to nickle and dime when you already know that you can stay AT the Casino.... your US money is already worth 15 to 20% more for a brand new hotel/resort with countless amenities... the others are mainly geared to the summer family crowds and unless they have been recently renovated, they all will show some wear... you asked for fantastic...live it up and buy the highest floor and room that your budget will allow...even the lowest rooms are above a massive complex of stores, restaurants, and the casino and all are fallsview...

Gary - thanks for the info. I had heard there was a "new" hotel, and this must be it. I checked the website and it looks fantastic. If that should be unavailable when we went to go for our entire stay, where else would you book?
We gamble some, but not huge amounts. Based on this and what there is to do nearby in early October, would you book 2 or 3 nights?

Hi Lois,
If you plan to just "do" Niagara Falls then 2 nights would be quite enough. Once you see the Falls, do a little gambling and tour around, that should be sufficient.
What I would suggest if you want to stay in the area for another night is to stay in Niagara on the Lake. It is a completely different experience. I think with the choice of restaurants, wineries etc. you would find it very enjoyable....and romantic.
We like Riverbend Inn (riverbendinn.ca) right on the Niagara Parkway, but there are all kinds of wonderful properties in town, particularly if you wanted to see a play at the Shaw Festival. The Charles Inn, Harbor House or a number of B&B's offer something for everyone.
As far as other hotels in the Falls, I'd have a look at tripadvisor since there are many detailed accounts of the hotels, specific rooms on which floors, recent renovations and even user photos showing their view of the Falls. Might be more helpful as far as details if you're thinking of staying somewhere else.
But again, I would stay at the new Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort. You can't go wrong as has been mentioned before.
