Niagara Falls, Canada or U.S.
We are taking our grandkids to New York and plan on stopping a night in Niagara Falls on our way from London. I know the view is better on the Can. side but is it more economical on the U.S. side even with the $$ exchange? more bargain hotel/motels? Also we were thinking we'd get the border crossing over with and in the morning can go straight to N.Y.

Well, there's not much to see or do on the US side compared to Canada, which has a neverending arrays of sights and activities to delight young and old.

You might save money on the US side because there's less intering stuff to spend it on, but otherwise, NF Canada is really quite reasonably priced.

BAK

By the way, it's a long drive from Niagara Falls New York to New York City.

Boring, too, unless you make efforts to liven it up.

Choices include gong into Rochester and seeing the photography museums at Kodak, or going south into the Finger Lakes area.

You might time things so that you spend the night just outside of New York City, where hotels are much less expensive, and then go into NYC in the morning, just past rush hour.

BAK

thanks BAK...we've warned the kids to bring books, game boy etc. for the long drive - they're so excited about going to NY that they say they won't ask once "are we there yet?"

Ha, ya right! You'll have to hold them to that... no "are we there yets" :-)

I agree Canadian side much more to do & see. Be sure to walk/drive down from the falls a 1/2 mile or bit more to look over at the huge whirlpool where the river does the 90 degree turn. Kinda neat. Some people miss it not realizing the lookout point is there.

Sounds like you are from Canada - so I don't think the exchange rate will find you many bargains on U.S. side (that you couldn't equal on Can. side).

I tend to repeat myself on this subject, but.....Niagara Falls should be viewed from both sides. From the Canadian side you view the falls from a distance and in their entirety. On the American side, you can stand at the railing right where the water drops over. It is awesome and breathtaking. In the morning, you can cross the border and stop on the American side before heading to NY. Have fun.
