NEXUS holders experience with Whirlpool bridge?
My husband and I are driving from London (ON) to the Buffalo airport. We have nexus cards. I just saw the Whirlpool bridge is open to nexus holders. Is it faster to take that than one of the other bridges? We would have to get off of principle roads to get to it. I have been told the Rainbow bridge is faster than the Peace bridge otherwise - any comments? Thanks!

Can't help you but I've always been curious about what nexus is?? :)

Whirlpool bridge is not that far out of the way and it is Nexus only. If there is a line up at any of the other bridges you will save time on the Whirlpool bridge - it's basically deserted. Take Bridge St.
Rainbow has a Nexus lane as well. |
I travel the bridges frequently and have never seen a lineup in any Nexus lane. You will have no trouble going to the most convenient bridge to you.

The only delay you may face at the Rainbow Bridge is in reaching the NEXUS lane... in busy periods and on holidays the traffic can back up across the bridge and onto the tourist area... this would block your access to the Nexus lane for as much as an hour... the Whirlpool bridge is a half mile up the road along the gorge... I would follow the Bridge to USA signs and listen to the bridge info AM station... its just a matter of a short detour for you if Rainbow is backed up....OR even better, just run a Google Map to Whirlpool Bridge and drive the extra half-mile... good luck!

Thanks for your responses. We left on Friday, so I missed most of them, but it is helpful for the future. We went across the whirlpool bridge just to see what it was like. It was a strange experience, not another car on it. We came back over the rainbow bridge and it wasn't backed up at all.
gary2tt hit the nail on the head about what our worry is. Having the fast pass is no good if you can't get to the lane. Thanks again! |
