Newfoundland car trip

We're spending five nights on the Rock in August. Our itinerary is: fly into Saint John's, spend the night, go on a pub crawl. Day 2:, go up to Signal Hill ect., then rent a car and spend the night in Bay Bulls. Day 3: horseback riding and possible stop at Witless Bay Ecological Prerserve; then drive across to Dildo (what a name!) and spend the night at an inn; Day 4: drive north to route 70, up and around, spending the night in Brigus; Day 5: back to Saint John's for our final night. Any suggestions about great restaurants in St. John's or the general areas we'll be travelling in? Any experiences with whale watching/boat tours you'd care to pass on? Thanks very much. (Incidentally, I find it really difficult to access past forums for some reason).

We had a wonderful time in Newfoundland last year. When in St John's go to George Street for your pub crawl. Lots of great places to eat and drink.
After you get your car, head up to Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. After you see that, on your way back down Highway 11, turn right at the signs for Maddox Cove and follow this road to Petty Harbour. Well worth seeing.
When you get down to Bay Bulls, O'brien's Whale and bird tours are very good.
South of this area, there is now a long distance hiking trail that is great. We hiked a section just north of Ferryland.
If you get back to St. John's ahead of schedule, take the marine drive north on Route 30 to Logy Bay, and Pouch Cove.
Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
