Need Victoria/Vancouver help
I'd love some suggestions for a nice hotel (not a b&b) in Victoria. We are going at the end of August. What we'd like is a nice sized room with 2 beds. We'd like to catch some of the Victoria Fringe Theatre festival (not sure the locations for the festival). We'll have a car, so its not imperative to be right down in the touristy central. Rather not spend more than $250 a night. Suggestions?
Also, we can't decide how to split 5 days - 2 in Vancouver, 3 in Victoria or vice versa. My husband is leaning towards 3 in Victoria so we can go to the theatre, I'm unconvinced and think Vancouver deserves more time. |
The Royal Scot Suite Hotel is a low apartment block type hotel just a block back from the harbour.
http://www.royalscot.com/ The Queen Victoria, a highrise type hotel, is close to town, the harbour and park. http://www.qvhotel.com/index.html Both are older buildings. But there are lots of places to stay in and around Victoria. I don't know which have the biggest rooms. |
Going to the theatre here is pretty much a waste of time-this place is all about the outdoors and-why sit inside on glorious evenings in beautiful places?

Another idea... it could be an interesting experience to stay at the Union Club, if you don't mind abiding by their dress code. Handy in town location near the Empress Hotel and the harbour.

Sam if you live in Victoria you should know that the Fringe Festival isn't just an indoor event. It is held around the city and in the inner harbour.

Thanks for the replies. I am now thinking of staying one night at the Miraloma on the Cove in Sidney, then two nights in Victoria. The Miraloma's website look great, has anyone stayed there? The Union Club sounds interesting. I will check out the other ideas as well.

In order to use the Union club you actually have to be a member or a member of an affiliate club. I really don't think it's be best spot for you. The Best Western Inner Harbour is very nice and has complete kitchens in it.

I would think the Miraloma would be quite nice. The (lovely) location is bit out of the way, but that can be a good thing. You could stay there the whole time if you didn't mind a half hour drive into Victoria.
Most people would probably recommend staying three days in Vancouver, but that's up to you. |
