Need rec's for restaurants- Bridgeport Rd area- Richmond, B.C.
 

HI! I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Bridgeport Rd- Richmond area near Vancouver Airport. I will not be renting a car since I am staying only one night and taking a flight out the next day.<BR><BR>A relative may be able to pick me up from the airport and go out for dinner. Looking for a restaurant that is not too expensive, something like Denny's, Boston Pizza, coffee shop etc. What would you recommend? Thanks!

There's a whole slew of family type restaurants in the area - most in the hotels themselves including a Denny's in the Sandman. They're all pretty well equal quality and I wouldn't reccomend one over the other. On Number # Road there is a good ABC Family Restaurant and accross from it a Knight & Day Restaurant that is a cut above the Denny's type. If you go a little further afield in Richmond however there are some really terrific Chinese Restaurants since Richmnond has a huge Chinese population. But it doesn't sound like that's what you're interested in this time.

I think Gary's suggestions are good. I just thought of a "local" favourite: White Spot. These restaurants are only in Western Canada and serve food similar to Denny's, but I think is of better quality. Not a fancy or expensive place though. <BR><BR>Many seniors go there for coffee and a slice of cheesecake/pie in the afternoon, families go there a lot for meals, and it's all very casual. They have great burgers and clam chowder. My friends and I, who have moved away from the Vancouver area, always make sure we have a meal at White Spot when we're back in town!<BR><BR>There are a few in Richmond; the closest ones to the airport are probably on No. 3 Road (the main strip in Richmond). There are two that come to mind: one in front of Save On Foods, and the other right in Richmond Centre Mall, a huge shopping centre complex. Your relative should know where these landmarks are. A cab ride back to your hotel wouldn't be very much if you wanted to stick around and browse/shop after dinner. <BR><BR>Wherever you choose, have fun!

You can always hit the Swedish buffet at IKEA on Bridgeport, although it's a bit of a schlep from the airport. Cheap and good, though, and you can pick up a sofa while you're at it.

Calgary had a "White Spot" chain a few years back that was totally unrelated to the BC based chain. I believe that Calgary outfit is no longer around but in any event the one you experienced a few years back is not the White Spot chain in BC.<BR><BR> Matter of fact the one in BC is a far cry from the one I grew up with in the 50's and 60's when Chicken was their specialty. Once the White Spot bought KFC rights in BC they had to drop the chicken from their menu because it was ten times as good as KFC's.

I have a lot of affection for the White Spot restaurants. There have been times when I was travelling around BC on my own, and just wanted a plain, good meal. They offer that in pleasant, clean surroundings.

You may want to try out Moxie's Restaurant in the Sandman Inn, which is located on Bridgeport, just 3-5 minutes away from your hotel. The Sandman Inn is located across from the plaza that has Tim Horton's, Michael's, and Pier 1 Imports.
