Need info on hotels in Vancouver? Desperate!

Need some info on where to stay in Vancouver.
I will only be there for three days, so it is not important that i have a lot of luxury, since I will spend most of my time touring. Does anyone know anything about Sylvia Hotel? It is on Fodors list of hotels, but not his pick per say. Also any other suggestions for a moderate price hotel will be appreciated? Thanks

The Sylvia is an old hotel, fairly near Stanley park. It's the kind of hotel publishing companies pick to accommodate authors on speaking tours, when the budget is tight but theywant the author to be comfortable. It's the favorite Vancouver hotel of a friend of mine who runs a publishing company and can stay at places a lot fancier. Andytou can still walk to the Westin Bayshore if you want to sit in a fancier lobby.
Decent hotels in Central Vancouver are fairly expensive. There are a few decent mid-priced hotels on Robson Street, but the Sylvia is hard to beat for comfort on a budget. Beware of low priced hotels.

bAK
Hi Brian,
Thanks for your info. I called the hotel and they were very pleasant on the phone(I can't say I got this reception from the BestWestern) The only concern I have is they do not have a/c. Maybe not need. Another choice I'm considering is Lord Stanley Suites and Hotel Georgia(Crowne Plaza). Any comments on these? Thanks again

Bill,
We stayed at the Lord Stanley in August and September 1998 and had a wonderful stay! The hotel is all one and two bedroom suites. There are full kitchens, an office area a sitting area and a separate bedroom (or two). It is a block from Stanley Park and wonderful restaurants (in the other direction from the park). It has a terrific view.
They do have floor air conditioning units (the european type). Just read the directions and you should be fine. We had a balcony during one stay and the breeze was more than enough to cool the room.
The staff is wonderful and extremely helpful.
Enjoy Vancouver!
Kittie

Hi Kittie:
Your information has been most helpful.
I received a brochure from the Lord Stanley hotel on yesterday and it looks nice and on the budget I want. Thanks again.
Bill
