N.S. worth the expense?

The cost of going over the N.S. via the CAT with a car would total $410. w/o tax. We could rent a cottage for $750./CAN on the Lighthouse route. We have never been there before and I'm trying to justify spending that much money to get to the province to my husband. Any input?

It depends on what you're looking for.

I loved the scenery of Cape Breton, and would go back there for a hiking vacation. I personally wouldn't bother with the rest, because I feel I can get the same feel in coastal Maine, without the expense and time of getting to NS. There ARE many fewer visitors (and locals!) in NS, as compared to Maine, so if you want less people, it might be worth it to you.

Well, I guess my opinion may be biased being a "bluenoser" but I can guarantee you won't be disappointed with Nova Scotia. Where on the Lighthouse Route would you be staying? My suggestion would be to do most of the province and not spend your time in one place. There are plenty of reasonable accommodations that wouldn't cost you any more than the price of the cottage. Once you have had an opportunity to view our beautiful Province and decide what you like best, then I would recommend renting a cottage in one location.

My husband doesn't find that a relaxing vacation going from place to place. I thought we could do day trips from Hubbards cove and also spend time fishing and relaxing too. He's questioning if we could fly somewhere for the ferry costs and the pain in driving to bar harbour and back etc.

Try Liberty Travel We got a package with rt airfare for 4 from Baltimore to Halifax and 5 nights in a nice Halifax Hotel for 1,589.00. I also tried to work the numbers with the CAT and it always came up as more expensive.
