Black Creek is accessible by subway/bus but, as Bak mentioned, it is a long trip. I don't drive so always have something to read with me for any trip on transit - which is every day. Maybe after lots of walking, you wouldn't mind a sit down to get there...you can decide once you're here. It's the subway up Yonge from Queen station to Finch, then a long bus ride and a walk of about a block or subway up University line, then west to Jane and a bus which stops at the Village.

The first way to get there goes past (some buses go right to the campus) York University where the Ontario Archives are located - in case you want to do any family history research.

Hamilton Airport and the Warplane Museum isn't far from Toronto but you can't get there without a car as far as I'm aware. http://www.warplane.com/ They have the last Lancaster flying in North America. (They also have a Canso flying boat - my late father was a crew member on one during WWII. At RAF Hendon several years ago, I found they had a stained glass window dedicated to the various forces who served at Pembroke Dock, Wales during the war - got a good photo of it.)

As you note, you'll be here during the airshow which is held on the last weekend of the CNE (aka the Ex) which is a rather tired fair held every year here, so you'll see various planes anyway. http://www.theex.com/

Do you mean snorkeling?: http://www.toronto.worldweb.com/Tour...ngSnorkelling/. Tobermory sounds like the place to go.

Travel times:
From downtown Toronto to Canadian Warplane Heritage might be an hour, on the long side. The good news is that it is, more or less, on the way to Niagara. It opens each day at 9 a.m.

Visit a while, and then continue on to Niagara on the back roads. It's a nice trip that way.

No easy diving or snorkling to match the time you'd spend at the shoe museum.

CNE airshow is a good one, for people who like airshows, and the CNE is easy to get to by public transit.

Well we have book the car and we can pick it up from Union station and booked the hotel at Niagara falls ,a room without a fall view as we were using Hilton points so had to take what was on offer. So we are all set expect for maps ,do the hire companies have maps?
Or would it be worth my while ordering one to bring with me,Is it an easy drive to Niagara?and is there a scenic route,or is it all motorways?
I have just received a Toronto guide book with a small city maps, early birthday gift.
So it looks as if it is all coming together now

The Toronto to Niagara route is very simple... as you drive south toward the water, look for Gardiner West/QEW entrance ...follow QEW west signs, as you continue QEW west you will follow QEW Niagara and exit at Stanley Avenue... (follow the signs for Niagara Fallsview Casino)

When you get to the Hilton, ask about an upgrade to a fallsview room... if they have one, they are more likely to give it to a points club member... I have great luck every time I ask... You can print out a simple map on Google Maps, but all of the hotels and car agencies have tourist maps...

The rental car might have a GPS. The Ontario tourism office at the Atrium at Yonge and Dundas - a few blocks from your hotel - has free maps. http://www.ontariotravel.net/TCISSeg...al?language=EN

Scenic routes to Niagara Falls.

The straightforward route to Niagara Falls isn't really petty, but it's not bad either. Only tricky part is following the curve to the left when you get to Burlington, near Brant Street.

Befoere that turn, you are on two highways at the same time. 403 and the Queen Elizabeth Way. In Burlington, 403 goes straight ahead (Warplane Museum is this way) and QEW cirves off to the left.

A few minutes later you go over a huge bridge, which is interesting. Hamiltgon is below, known as Steeltown, and you'll see why.

DEPENDING ON YOUR INTERESTS... you could get off the QEW fairly soon after this and drive on backroads; you could stay on until St. CAtharines, and then get off and look at shiops going throughthe Welland Canaal. (There's a Canal museum and viewing site in St. Catharines), or you could stay on the QEW and just get to the hotel and start enjoying Niagara Falls.

There is a very secenic route both ways from Niagara Falls (the falls themselces, not the city) staying right beside the river. One way takes you to Fort Erie, with the water right beside you all the way. You'll pass my cousin-in-laws house.

Going the other way from Niagra Falls to Niagara on the Lake, the water is still beside you, but way down below, in the Niagara Gorge.

Thanks for the directions ,I like the idea of stopping of on the way,we are going to do Niagara on the lake the second day on the way back to Toronto and possibly a wineries for a late lunch.Car is not due back at union station until 7.30 pm.

Gary ,I have no doubt hubby will ask about an upgrade he always has in the past and yes we usually get one which is nice,Not to worry if we don't ,we will not spend long in the room anyway.
I will be sure to check out The Ontario tourism office and see if I can pick up a good map ,just had a look at the website and they have a route planner under the direction for Niagara falls and a great little map of local attractions. thanks Liz
