my first time in Toronto
 

This is my first time to Toronto and I'll be traveling alone, (female).<BR>Can anyone tell me about the Yonge-Eglington area?? Also, I am having a hard time finding reasonable accommodations for two weeks.

Welcome to Toronto! First of all, I need to point out that the name of the street is Eglinton, not Eglington - it's a common error - people here say that all the time and unfortunately it's one of those things that drives me nuts! Okay - that out of the way - the area is very busy, with lots of restaurants and shops. It has the reputation of being a sort of singles neighbourhood. I'm not aware of any accommodation in that area; it's mostly high-rise office buildings and nearby residential streets. The Inn on the Park is at Leslie and Eglinton, a fair distance east of Yonge; that might be the closest.

Cindy's right. About the name (and the neighbourhood). Most of us just give up and call it Yonge & Eg, as in, "That's so Yonge and Eg"<BR><BR>Geeze. With streets spelled like Yonge, and Eglinton, and pronounciation nighgmares like Queen's Quay ("key") and Spadina (that's Spa-DYE-na, please - except the tourist attraction called Spadina House, now that's Spa-DEE-na. Go figger!) how unfriendly can this city be to tourists asking directions, eh? To top it off, the oddest moniker of them all: Avenue Road. <BR><BR>ANYWAY, Yonge and Eg. Great, happenin' area. Lots of good shops, restaurants. You'll love it.

Hi:<BR>I'm not sure what kind of accomodations you are looking for? hotels? There are plenty of them in Toronto. If you are just looking for a place to sleep you might try the YWCA. It is located at Yonge and St. Clair and is only 2 subway stops from Yonge and Eg.

You might try priceline.com, some people are getting the Marriott Courtyard for less than $30 a night. It is an Okay hotel in the downtown area. Go to biddingfortravel.com first and check out hotels in Ontario Canada.

I live in the Yonge/Eglinton area and there is a great B&B two blocks from the subway on a nice residential street - Orchardview B&B - you can do a search but last time I checked, their prices were very reasonable. There is also a Best Western a few blocks east of Yonge St. on Mt. Pleasant at Eglinton that has good rates also.

Try Del Suites to see if they have any apartment-type accomodations in that area. Did you go on toronto.com? There is a Novotel at Yonge & Sheppard, that's 3 subway stops away. There really aren't any hotels right in that area- more apartment buildings and homes.
