Mt Tremblant and Montreal

Hi - We will be flying into Montreal and then renting a car to drive to Mont Tremblant for 4 nights after Thanksgiving.
1) How long is the drive?
2) Any recommendations for a nice hotel with a woodburing fireplace in Mont Tremblant?
3) Then Driving back to Montreal for 2 nights. Should we drop the car off or keep it at the hotel to drive ourselves to the airport? Is there a metro to the airport?
4) What area should we pick a hotel in Montreal? We like to visit pubs after dinner so want to be able to walk around. Any nice hotels have freee parking?
Thanks.

1. It should take about an hour and a half depending on traffic.

2. You might want to try one of the many condos in the Tremblant village. http://www.tremblant.ca/index-e.htm

3. I would drop it at the airport. You don't need a car for two days in Montreal, the parking can be expensive, and the traffic a headache. The metro does not go to the airport, but there is a good shuttle bus service from downtown.

4. There are 3 areas you might look at: Vieux Montréal, Plateau Mont-Royal, and downtown. If you can find a nice hotel with free parking, let us all know.

It is about 170 kms from the airport to Mt. Tremblant. The first 50 kms during peak time (15:00 to 18:00) on a weekday is a nightmare.

Google "tremblant fireplace ban".

There is no metro to the airport. The 747 bus service is quite good (according to my daughter who uses it frequently)

Depending on the number of persons in your party, paying for parking or paying for bus tickets/taxi fare might be a case of six or half a dozen.

The advice you've received above is bang-on for all your questions. It took me closer to 2 hours to get to Tremblant when I went last, but this is traffic-dependent as Laverendrye says.

It does look like you'll have to forego the wood-burning fireplace.

It's $7.00 per person to take the 747 express (city) bus airport to downtown. The stops are here:

http://www.stm.info/bus/geomet/geo747.htm

The bus stops at Berri-UQAM metro station and transferring to metro is free to take you to your hotel in case those downtown stops don't work for you on the 747 bus line.

Best wishes, D. Williams
