Hi Makeshine - glad everything is going well. Unfortunately the end of January can be very iffy as to weather so some of the suggestions may not be great in pouring rain.
What are you interested in or did you just want an overall tour of the area? There are so many great spots to see and if the sun is shining. Let me know your priorities and we can go from there.

Just want to see and experience the city. Walk around, nice place with a view for brunch, walk around/window shop, eat lunch, have a couple of drinks, go to dinner, see a show/movie. If the weather is good, maybe hit a trail or something to catch nice views of the city and the mountains, if the weather is not so good then maybe museums and other indoor activities.

Idea is to just hangout since we haven't met in a while and want to spend some time together. Don't want to be worn out at the end of the trip either...

So if suggestions come by with one set for good weather and another for not so good weather, that would be great! :)

Here's a simple trip close to home - if the weather is decent
the view at the end is wonderful and if it's pouring the
resto. is still great - kinda romantic when it's socked in.

Drive east to Deep Cove in North Van. There's a little
bistro there "The Arm's Reach" that has an outdoor eating
area and a very pleasant resto with view windows over the
small marina and the inlet. Food is good. Reservations
through Open Table are always a good idea b/c it's a
popular place.

There's a lovely 30 min walk north along the road ending
at another marina; parks all around. There's even a little
art gallery a few doors away.

If you want a hike there's access to the Baden-Powell Trail
- the entrance is on the road to the Marina. This part of
the trail is very steep and ends at an old quarry with a
terrific view over the water. Will be sodden in January
so dining out clothing won't work at all!

HI Makeshine

Have suggestions for you but for now if you take a look at Granville Island as a indoor/outdoor day www.granvilleisland.com.
There are great brunch restaurants as well as dinner Bridges, Sandbar, Dockside. You can see by the website you can spend plenty of time there. Instead of a movie the Arts Club Theatre is excellent but not sure what will be on that weekend.
I know coming from San Francisco (my daughter and SIL lived there in the Marina district several years) its hard to beat the restaurants but Vancouver has its own charm.

For a very pretty drive take Marine Drive to the west and follow it to Horseshoe Bay. You can come back on the Upper Levels highway back down Taylor way and head over the Lions Gate. Take the Stanley Park cutoff and drive all around that side of the park. On your way back from the city take the cutoff for Stanley Park and do the other side of it. There are great stopping spots and if the weather cooperates you can walk the seawall or trails through the park.

Your time is limited so it sounds like you want to spend time together in a leisurely way so don't try to fit too much in - just enjoy!!
