Montreal/Quebec City

I'm planning a 3-day trip to Montreal/Quebec City for my 18th anniversary. I'm surprising my husband with this trip and want to make it one of a kind!!! I'm looking at going in October (have a few days off of work) and was wondering if this is an o.k. time to go in terms of the weather. In addition, I'd be interested in incredibly romantic places to stay and to visit. I'd rather not rent a car, rather, fly into Montreal and take the train to Quebec City. Is this reasonable and
advisable? Thanks for all of your help!

Hi Carol!!!

Montreal is a great city, though if you're looking for a romantic stay, I would spend the time in Quebec City and Charlevoix. There is of course the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, though I would opt for the Hotel Priori.
A two-hour drive east of Quebec City will bring you to Pointe-au-Pic in Charlevoix. Le Manoir Richelieu is a grand hotel in the countryside over-looking the St-Laurent. Violins playing in the main dining-room, spa, casino, etc.....BEAUTIFUL. Stop in Baie St-Paul along the way!!! VERY ROMANTIC!!!
The colors of the leaves should be peak at the beginning of October.
Enjoy.

Yes, the earlier in October you visit, the prettier the leaves and the nicer the weather. Perhaps even a spell of Indian summer. There's a wonderful book called Romantic Days and Nights in Montreal, which also has suggestions for Quebec City. Wonderful recommendations galore.
I agree with the above that the first part of October is best. I was there in the later part and it was in the thirties during the day. We were not prepared! Quebec City is wonderful however, I would think you would need a vehicle. We rented a car and drove from Montreal therefore I am unaware of the transportation there.

We just did a package tour of Montreal and Quebec which included a round trip train trip to Quebec. Montreal has one of the most beautiful train stations I've ever been in and Quebec also has a beautiful station. It's a 3 hour ride each way and we thoroughly enjoyed it. If I were to go up again, I would stay in a B&B on Ile d'Orleans which is a few miles from Quebec. We stayed in the Hotel Manior Victoria which is inside the walls and was very nice. If I were only going for 3 days, I think I would opt for Quebec and skip Montreal. In my opinion, Quebec would be the more romantic place to visit.
