Montreal with kids
We are planning a trip in August to Montreal with a 4 and 7 year old. We have about 10 days. Any suggestions on accommodations and sights would be great. Should we leave the city for a day or more? A hotel that would have suites and breakfast would be great. Thanks

Forgot to mention Parc Safari (about 45 minutes outside of Montreal) and Mont St-Sauveur (a waterpark) also about 45 minutes to 1 hour away. Check out this site for tons of info: http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/B2C/00/default.asp

If you search back, you will see lots of suggestions for kids in Montreal.
As great as Montreal is, 10 days is a lot of time in the city. You might want to consider at least a few days in Quebec City, and the surrounding countryside.

Most of the bigger hotels have pools, which I think are a must with such young kids in August: the Omni, Hilton Bonaventure, Sheraton are probably the best pools. Le Square Phillips is great--very spacious, incl. well-equipped kitchens, incl. breakfast, and close to major shopping and sights, so you can do a lot without exhausting the kids. I forget whether they have a pool, though. There is a maze at the Vieux Port which is fun, and close to La Ronde, already mentioned, is the old fort from Champlain's time, where they could get a glimpse of history which might actually be interesting to them. You can get to the Biodome and Insectarium via subway--my children thought the subway ride more fun than anything--go figure. A note on the La Ronde amusement park: they specialize in big roller coasters, most of which are too big for your little one, anyway, so I wouldn't plan on spending a lot of time there. If you can drag them to the excellent Musee des beaux-arts (art museum) on Sherbrooke St., there is a well-done interactive kids' area on the main floor.

Tons to do and see in Montreal. I would also suggest you explore other areas around like Ottawa and Quebec.
Ottawa has tons of museums. The Natural History Museum (lots of dinosours), the Aircraft Museum and the Science museum (designed for kids) will keep your kids occupied. Worth at least two or three days. There are lots of suite hotels available when all the politicians have gone home for the summer.
Take a day trip to Quebec, explore the lower town and wander around the walls of the old city. Visit Montmorency falls on the North shore a few miles east of Quebec. To get there, I recommend you take highway 20 along the south shore and instead of going into Quebec directly, head for Riviere du Loup. Dull and boring drive but take the Levis exit, explore Fort #1 (let the kids run around a little), and then take the ferry across the St Lawrence to Quebec. You will be rewarded with the most spectacular views of the city.
