Montreal Restaurants
My wife and I are spending 6 nights in Montreal beginning May 30 and we are looking for restaurant suggestions. We are staying at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. We both enjoy good French cuisine, & price is not a big issue. However, we don't enjoy restaurants with an attitude. Any suggestions for lunch and/or dinner would be greatly appreciated.

Try Le Paris on St.Catherine West near Plaza Alexis Nihon where food is good and ambiance is warm. You have numerous French rest's in Old Montreal as well.
|
Try "L'entrecôte Saint-Jean" on Peel St. near de Maisonneuve Blvd. for an outstanding steak-frites in a Parisian Brasserie atmosphere.

My all time favorite restaurants in Montreal:
Ferreira Cafe-Peel St-the best Portugese Seafood
Toque-St Denis-just sooo good!
Zen-in the Omni Hotel,Chinese like you have never seen!
the resto in the Auberge Bonaparte.
|
We prefer casual, byob places in Montreal. Our favorites are Le Jardin de Panos, a very lively Greek place with a great outdoor terrace; and Bazou, another lively place with a very creative menu. Panos is on Duluth Street, Bazou is on Maisonvue East.
|
Thanks, everyone, for your input on Montreal restaurants. I'm sure we'll have a great time eating our way through Montreal.

Don

Les Remparts was a great experience. Very cozy atmosphere, excellent service and the scallops were amazing.

Here's another huge recommendation for Le Paris (resevations essential). We also enjoyed L'Entrecote Saint-Jean (but they serve only steak-frites, which is excellent!). Our all time favorites are Guy & Dodo Morali, Chez La Mere Michel and Le Lutecia at Hotel de la Montagne (where there is a fabulous cocktail lounge with live "mellow" music). For one of those "worth it for the experience" meals, Toque is best of the best for "creative, interesting" food, and Les Halles is wonderful for more traditional but creative fare (particularly the 7-course "tasting" menu, whereupon you are asked your preferences before the Chef determines what he'll prepare for you).

Those are great suggestions, I plan to take them along on our next visit. I have to ask one question, what is a frites? It always goes along with mussles or maybe steaks. i did finally get vine rouge however. I thought I had stumbled into aliance francease.
