Montreal Restaurant Recommendations, Please.

My husband is taking me on a short (2 night) trip to Montreal. We were there 2 years ago with my 11 year-old son. But since this trip will be without son, we want to dine at upscale, trendy, and/or romantic restaurants (we've only been married 3 months). I've searched here and there are quite a few restaurants that have been recommended - Entrecote, Toque, La Colombe, Au Pied de Cochon, and others. But I'm confused and not sure what to choose! Price is really not an object but would like to spend less than more. We are staying at the Sheraton on Sherbrooke. Not that that matters, since we can take the metro or cab it.

We are leaving 10/19 so if I need to make a reservation before we get there I'd like to do that as soon as possible.

As always, your wonderful and helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated!

if i had two nights in montreal...

1. upscale / trendy = le club chasse et peche the piglet risotto with foie gras slivers is one of my favorite dishes ever. also their seared scallops are amazing, and i generally don't like scallops.

2. romantic / montreal bistro = l'express

i'd make reservations wherever you decide to go...

fyi - toque isn't really 'trendy' but more corporate, and really expensive (for what you get). au pied de cochon is excellent, but hope you like foie gras and heavy food.

can't comment on the other two.

Hey Squiggy,

I'm not sure if you'd be up to heading to Little Italy for dinner, but there is a great Italian restaurant there that my boyfriend and I go to for special occasions called Casa Napoli. The food is great and I love the atmosphere for a romantic dinner.

I loved L'Express and would definitely recommend it. I loved the "old school" vibe of the place, it reminded me of a parisian bistro in the 40s or something lol!

Enjoy Montreal....and I'm sure any meal you eat will be great, Montreal has great restaurants!

aucho53: Where are L'Express & Casa Napoli located? (going to Montreal in November & looking for 2 or 3 restaurants)

Hi. Thanks both of you for the recos. I did also see l'express listed here as well. Sounds like somewhere we'd definitely go. Also, le club chasse et peche for the scallops alone sounds wonderful. I know DH would definitely want to also try Casa Napoli. Oh boy, decisions, decisions. Okay, I'll get to pick one and he'll get to pick one!

Thanks again!

l'express is at 3927 rue St-Denis - its tough to find, there is no sign (except tiles in the sidewalk)

have fun

Hi Wow,

L'express is located on St Denis Street in the Plateau area of Montreal and Casa Napoli is located on St.Laurent Blvd in Little Italy.

I love them both!!

Thx JMWF & Layla! We will try both in November. Can we cab it from Sherbrooke & Peel which is where I am staying? How long?

aucho53 Oct 16th, 2007 02:47 PM

Hey wow,

You can definitely cab it to either....Casa Napoli is a little further north and will be the pricier of the two cab rides. If you want, take the metro to the De Casteneau station and then take a quick cab ride from there to save some $$$.

Hope that helps.
