Montreal & Quebec City
I am spending a week with 2 friends in Montreal and Quebec City. We are trying to keep costs down but looking for good hotels in Old Montreal or downtown. Also any recommendations on things to do? We are in our 50's-60. We like museums, restaurants, outdoor activities, art and music. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hotels are pretty pricey in Old Montreal. If you want to keep the costs down (and meet some interesting travellers), you might want to go the b&b route. The plateau area of Montreal (my favorite neighborhood) has many. Also a handful of small European hotels on the Plateau. There's always plenty to do in Montreal - lots of fun little restaurants and cafes on the plateau and mile end sections. In warmer weather, there is usually a street fest going on somewhere, also the botanical gardens are amazing. Jean Talon market is another fun place for a late morning excursion. In Quebec City there are many nice little b&b's right in the heart of the walled city.

The Montréal Botanical Garden, one of the city’s jewels, is recognized as one of the world’s greatest botanical gardens. It offers a colourful program of events, exhibitions and activities all year long. It’s also a perfect place to enjoy fresh air and natural beauty.
