Montreal :Omni Hotel??
Looking for luxury hotel close to McGill University. Can anybody tell me about the Omni Hotel? Any other suggestions?
|
The Omni started out in life as a Four Seasons, so it has a good base and prime location; but there are other, more luxurious properties within a short walk of McGill. The Sofitel, on Sherbrooke, would be the closest, though Le Germain is also lovely. I like Loew's Vogue, on de la Montagne, which is about a 10-minute walk away. Avoid the Ritz (though their restaurant is nice).

Thanks, Lois! ok, so if you were going to be going to Montreal on a regular basis & needed to be w/in walking distance of McGill(even in February when it is freezing!!)wld Loew's Vogue be your #1 choice? Or, wld you go w/ Sofitel b/c it is closer? How far away is Le Germain?

Hi wow..
The first couple of trips , we stayed at the Four Seasons, then it was the Westin then it finally became the Omni. It is a very nice hotel, we always got a Jr Suite, high floor on the rue Sherbrook side, giving you a nice view of Mt Royal. The Chinese restaurant Zen in the hotel is wonderful. The Sofitel is also a great idea, beautiful modern hotel. For the last 6 years, we have been staying at the Le Germain. It is about 2 blocks and around the corner off of Sherbrook from the Omni. (The Vogue is nice but would be my last choice as it is the farthest away)..McGill is very close to the Omni and Le Germain, pretty much the same amount of blocks ( I think) I love the Le Germain and cannot say enough good about them...the rooms are very nice, I love the furnishings and small touches, CDplayers and the huge deep bathtubs, or get a room with a view of the street and your shower will have a view :) The staff is great, the concierge is great...I sleep like a baby every time we are there. And that big fireplace in the lobby is wonderful when you come in or wait to go out on a cold night.. Hope this helps..:) |
Hello, Scarlett! Happy Spring! Thanks for your comments. I think we will go w/ Le Germain b/c we want to be as close as possible(& I love the thought of that fireplace & the huge deep bathtubs!:)). Do they have suites @ Le Germain?
|
treied to so a smiley & ended up w/ that hideous grin...don't know how I did that...I am trying a few here...:) :0 :))
|
or, maybe Sofitel b/c Lois said it was the closest?? Are Sofitel & Le Germain equally nice?
|
Sofitel-
http://www.sofitel.com/sofitel/fiche...he_hotel.shtml Le Germain- http://www.hotelgermain.com/en/accueil.asp The difference in distance is a matter of a couple of blocks .. See if you can get a feel for the two from the sites, they have good photos. Have fun deciding :) |
Why don't you alternate staying at Le Germain and the Sofitel, and see which you like better? I prefer the Vogue, which is maybe a 10-minute stroll from the heart of McGill's main campus, because it is closest to my favorite restaurants and shopping.
|
Thanks, Lois & Scarlett! We may try all 3: Sofitel, Le Germain, Vogue.:)

We stayed at the Le Germain - it's great and beautiful and very close. There are some other nice hotels, restaurants in the area. The map at http://www.eatsleepgo.com/Montreal.html is very useful.
