Montreal Lodging
 

I am looking for a nice place for myself and my best friend to stay in August for 3 nights. She and I would like to keep it under $125/night. We are in our late twenties and want to be close to some great restaurants and sites. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do a search of Montreal accommodations - there is lots on this site.

I stayed at Anne Ma Soeur Ma Soeur on St. Denis St. EXCELLENT $185 for a double suite so I assume a single is much less.

Do you want a large hotel with pool, a small European style hotel, or a b&b?
Do you want to be downtown(cosmopolitan), on the plateau(hip french), or in the old city(quaint)?

I think I was just overwhelmed when I did a search. I always tend to get that way when I am trying to pick a hotel.

I would prefer either a Boutique hotel or a larger B&B (private bath is a must).

As for location...Probably the Old City.

If I may make a comment - Old Montreal is quite picturesque and charming, but for 2 twentysomethings spending 3 nights it might become a bit bor-ing. Old Montreal is quite small, and the area just beyond (where the metro stop is) is not particularly exciting. I would recommend staying in the plateau/St. Denis area - tons of cafes, clubs, shops, etc. The place Tanya recommended is in the heart of this area. For a small hotel, check out the Argoat. For b&b's go to the b&bcanada website.
I know lots of people like the old city, but we often weekend in Montreal and much prefer the plateau area to the old city for interesting places to eat and shop. For some nice photo ops, Old Montreal is the place to go - but stay in the plateau area.
On the other hand, Montreal is such a fun city, you'll have a great time no matter where you stay!

I agree, stay around Rue St. Denis. You are only a 15 minute walk to Old Montreal. The hotel I recommended is considered a boutique hotel, complete with Murphy beds, your own balcony, small fridge, stove, and best of all, everything you need is located around you. Walk a block into the Greek section to have a wonderful meal. Lots of coffee shops, liquor stores, shopping, etc.

I just book a great package deal thru libertytravel.com and got airfare and 3 rooms at the Fairmont Queen Victoria for $690. Based on the fact that the air fare from Newark was about $340, that put the hotel at $116 a night, including tax! What a great deal!

Having been a single girl headed to Montreal through the 20 something years on a budget, yet wanting to be close to the "buzz", here is my recommendation: Manoir Sherbrooke 516.845.0915. Great location (Sherbrooke, right past St. Laurent) It is cute- has a little breakfast room for a.m. croissants and coffee. My best friend and I spent many a night here on a budget back in the day.

jmariez - Well we are both pushing 30 (me in less than 3 months) and I am married so not too much partying is in our plan but we do love to shop and eat at great restaraunts!

Any other suggestions are welcomed. I am going to book by the end of this week!

Hi! There is also "auberge de la fontaine" http://www.aubergedelafontaine.com which in front of the city's best park, right in the middle of the Plateau, walking distance to shopping and eating on St-Denis and Mont-Royal, close to the metro, near cool bars... Really a great location. Have fun!
