Montreal: Intercontinental or Place d'Armes

I am undecided between the Intercontinental Montreal and Hotel Place d'Armes (both located in Old Montreal). We will only be visiting for one day, so location is important, but I want the best hotel also. Thoughts?

I don't believe the Intercontinental is really 'in' Old Montreal, but a few blocks above it, kind of between the downtown and Old Montreal. Not a bad area, but not the charming cobblestone streets, etc that you might be expecting.

Hello! I would definitely go for Hotel Place D'armes which is a wonderful "boutique" hotel. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. The Intercontinental is also nice, but less spectacular, and more in the business part of Old Montreal (I know, I work right beside it!).

Thanks for the replies. I am going to book the Place d'Armes.

Can you recommend a great restaurant for dinner? I will be there on a Monday (July 4) in case that matters. I prefer eclectic types of food, unique ingredients, great presentation of food. My price limit is about $100 USD for 2 people, not including alcoholic beverages. I am considering Cube and Verses (unfortunately, Toque! is closed on Mondays).

Hello Fluff!
I repeat myself on this forum, but I my favourite spot is La brunoise (www.brunoise.ca)... Cube is excellent but also very expensive. Even with the exchange rate, it's more around 100$ per person I think. There is also Ferreira (1446, rue Peel
(514) 848-0988) which serves exquisite Portuguese food.
