Montreal in September

I had to cancel my Jazz Festival visit to Montreal this past weekend due to a last minute family situation (in hindsight I'm glad as the temperatures sounded way beyond my comfort zone) and Tango is allowing me to use the plane ticket witihn a year. I am considering Montreal in early September. Is this a good time to visit? Or should I try to get there for another festival this summer? As much as I love a good festival, high heat/humidity suck and crowds can wear me down fast thus my September idea.
Thanks!

Today's high is 35, 45 Humidex.

Mid-september is usually quite nice in Montreal with highs in the 15-20 degrees C range (I say usually, because you never know). Much cooler, less tourists.

There is one festival after another in Montreal. Check the schedule at http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/ September is a lovely time to go, along with October. May and June are also beautiful. In addition to the festivals, you might want to check the schedules at Place des Arts, Molson Center, and the Museum of Fine Arts when making your plans.

ula, Why the end of September is this when the leaves on Moount Royal are changing colour? Is the city always pretty vibrant or is summer the time to visit? My option would be to visit when the locals vastly outnumber the tourists as it makes for a more relaxed visit but does the city always buzz with culture and streetlife even after summer?
Thanks again for the replies!
