Montreal in December ?

Hi,
My family and I are going to montreal over christmas (21st-28th) and I was wondering if tourists attractions and shop will be open during that week? Anything Fun to do on Christmas Day?? Also, I plan on bringing my snowboard with me. Is there a good mountain close to Montreal? We will be renting a vehicle to travel about, we plan on visiting Quebec City, do u have any suggestions regarding driving and getting around with a car?? any suggestions regarding attractions/shopping and restaurants in Montreal? What will the approx. Temperature??
Thank you very much,
Jessica

Snowboarding in this area is great. Mont St. Saveur is not too far our of Montreal and offers some good skiing. Much larger and much better is Mont Tremblant. This is a longer drive but if you are an avid skiier or snowboarder it is well worth the drive!

Most things will be closed on Christmas Day but movie theatres tend to be open so catch a flick that day! Restaurants will be hit and miss, some open, some closed. Also, on Christmas Eve many shops and attractions will close early. I'm not sure about Boxing Day (Dec. 26) in the province of Quebec. In Ontario the shops are now all open (shorter day though) and face the fines for opening because they make such great profits.

Drivers in Quebec are a little wild so just watch out. No right on red either.

Temperature that time of year can vary from VERY COLD to somewhat mild. Check the weather report before you leave. You will definately need warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, etc.!

Have a great time!!!

Thanks very much for your suggestions, they will be very helpfull. I am wondering if you have any idea how long the drive is from Montreal to Quebec city and from Montreal to Ottawa? Are there any good night clubs in Montreal for an 18 year old..hehe Do u know anything about the Rosemont area, is this a good side or town or a bad side of town?? We are renting out an appartment along there for the week.
Thanks,
Jessica

Montreal to Ottawa is about a 2 hour drive. There are ski resorts in the Gatineau near Ottawa such as Camp Fortune -Beginner.. This site has more info on skiing: http://www.ottawakiosk.com/skiing.html

As for temperature, bring all the warm clothes you can find :) You will need sweaters, jacket/parka, mitts etc. and some good boots. It can get very cold especially out in the mountains.

Beware of drivers in Montreal. They are not the most curteous. The Train system in the city is excellent and is fairly well connected.. I didn't have problems getting around within the city.

Enjoy Montreal!

Thanks DS for your suggestions, I can't wait for our vacation. The temperature will be very different from Vancouver, so it should be interesting!

The drive from Montreal to Quebec City is about 2 hours.
Coming from NYC, we find the drivers in Montreal to be courteous. Although while staying in Montreal, we rarely drive within the city, no need. Public transportation is easy and taxis are not expensive.
Take a look at www.tourism-montreal.org, soo much info on restaurants etc.
Have a great time in my favorite city!
